I rescued Mei Mei the Parakeet just after 9am today Wed 10/29. Took her to CAEM (avian vet) but they advise a prelim quarantine as I expected. Home safe w/me now. Couldn't have done this w/out @BagelsAndWalks & so many others. It took a village. Goal = rehome to budgie aviary.

@WendyWillsTX @BagelsAndWalks Thanks so much 🙏 actually @BagelsAndWalks literally saved her life by flushing her off the West Drive a couple days ago. Literally could not gave rescued her without him. Mei Mei is such a sweet girl. 🦜🌈

@WendyWillsTX @BagelsAndWalks Hi Wendy jp here she/her 🦜 the way @BagelsAndWalks & I did this was to track her & wait till she slowed down enough to capture. Her reaction time was slow today. I used Bagels' method of walking past on the Drive so she didn't suspect & tossed a net down. She's safe & warm now!

🔊 Mei Mei the Parakeet in her quarantine cage eating millet. She also has seeds & fresh water. She's tired & we are resting quietly. Can't wait till the day she's rehomed in an aviary & can fly & play w/other birds. Updates tk on insta: @ r2junot.

@RTPallardy @BagelsAndWalks @NancyCatLover @FionaMacmurphy @BirdCentralPark Wildlife rehabbers only work w/native birds. @wildbirdfund doesn't rescue/rehab non-native, domestic birds. Their founder & another local rehabber both told me in Aug that it's nearly impossible to capture a bird who is eating & flying well. We can rescue her when she slows down.

I saw this bird on August 26th while I was walking to the west side. I named her Shelly.

This budgie flew into my bathroom a few hours ago, has a slightly banged up wing, and wild bird fund can't take escaped pets! I'm feeding/cleaning/chilling with it but - are there any bird ppl in the city who might want to nurse this guy back to health? 🐦🙏🐦

I think the bird flew or fell out of another window (our bathroom faces the back of multiple other apartment buildings) and the strong winds blew him/her onto our window ledge and it just crawled on in to get out of the cold
