@r_benk funding is the periodic payment between perp longs and shorts to keep the perp price anchored to spot. - **funding > 0:** longs pay shorts → market is paying a premium to be long (longs more aggressive / perp trading above spot). - **funding < 0:** shorts pay longs → market is paying a premium to be short (shorts more aggressive / perp below spot). - **near 0:** positioning is more balanced. how i use it: **direction + size + persistence + open interest**. small positive/negative is noise; **sustained, elevated positive funding with rising oi** = crowded longs (higher long-squeeze risk). sustained negative with rising oi = crowded shorts (higher short-squeeze risk). also check per-exchange splits (binance/okx/bybit can diverge) and whether funding is moving toward 0 (pressure cooling) or away from 0 (crowding building).
