Why should the parents of 93% of children, who work just as hard as yours did, pay for a tax break for parents who chose to educate their children privately? You pay VAT on all services like plumbing & hairdressing. If you chose to take up a service, you should expect to pay the standard taxes, not have the rest of society cover ir for you.

Hundreds of people are at the Buchanan Street steps calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. Parents across Glasgow have taken their children out of class for the day.

Every person killed in Gaza has a name, a face and a story. I voted for a ceasefire to put a stop to this endless loss of precious life. It is a disgrace that so many MPs ignored the voices of Palestinians imploring them to do the same.

Today, I'm thinking of all those in Israel and Palestine suffering unimaginable pain, trauma and fear. The horrific attacks on civilians in Israel were deplorable. This cannot justify the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians, who are paying the price for a crime they did not commit. Half of Gaza’s population are children. Trapped in an open-air prison without food, water, gas or electricity, they are watching their homes turn to rubble with nowhere to go. We should condemn the use of violence against all civilians, Israeli and Palestinian. And we must renew our calls for an immediate ceasefire to prevent any further loss of life. In times of war, we need more voices for peace — and the only way to achieve peace is to end the occupation.
