Here we go again! The deadline for you to officially submit your teams is 9am (BST, I'm assuming) on June 10th—next Tuesday. I will then give anyone that wants to join the fun of the Fantasy Five Twitter League till the end of the first event, the Championship League, to send them my way, which is when we'll do our first update 👍 Make sure you screenshot proof of your team or such if you're sending it to me after the official deadline! Feel free to comment them below or otherwise contact me however you wish. I will message everyone that played last year in due course and also those that have already expressed interest in joining. We had over 100 people last year, which was just tremendous. Please retweet this post if you can so that we can get as many more folk playing as possible 😁 wst.tv/news/2026/june…

@Nick_Metcalfe BBC cuts mean there is less original programming to show, so snooker benefits as a result.

Another very interesting thing, looking at the TV schedules for week two of the World Championship. Live snooker will be on BBC Two from 7pm until 10pm every night. That's never happened before. Very clear upgrade of coverage. #Snooker
Nick Metcalfe@Nick_Metcalfe

There will be live snooker on BBC One on the second Saturday afternoon of the World Championship. That weekend of April 25-26 is a big one on BBC One. There will also be live coverage of the Manchester City v Southampton FA Cup semi-final and the London Marathon.

@thesnookerhall Discussed on today's Snooker Scene podcast. What options were available? Not "foul and a miss" because the red was hit. AFAICT, the only remaining option in the rules is "unsporting conduct". The referee can give a player a warning, or award the frame or match to the opponent.

Speaking of integrity in #snooker. Looking back at that incident in frame 14 of the Liam Pullen vs Amir Sarkhosh match. It’s a bit convenient that the cue ball went straight into the pocket. Liam was absolutely right to question the intention of his opponent. Any thoughts?

'The magic of snooker has always been in the slow burning drama of marathon matches. It's the heart and soul of the sport.' With apologies to best of seven fans, I'll be writing about the glory of multi-session matches in my new @SLSport_ column. It's coming soon. #Snooker

@EndofFrame The 2024 Scottish Open final had no centuries, although that was best of 17. The 2024 International Championship final had no centuries, if you require a best of 19.

Today's final saw no century breaks. Can anyone remember the last time a ranking event final over a similar number of frames which featured no centuries for either player? #Tourchampionship #Snooker

@voooolare There was the Coral Cup and £100,000 bonus for the player who got the most prize money in the three tournaments (similar to the BetVictor bonus) but that only lasted one season (2019-20 season). Stephen Maquire won the bonus and said in the interview he would buy some socks.

Assumed that sweeping Players' Series would earn you more ranking points than winning the 4th Major, turns out it isn't so

@TSnooker102 It was supposed to be a best of 27 final in 2020 (see March 2020 edit of en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?ti…) but when rescheduled it became best of 19 throughout because it was easier to manage with Covid restrictions. Unfortunately they subsequently decided to stick with best of 19.

The first ever Tour Championship really was incredible. Robertson v Selby: black ball decider after Robertson was 6-2 down. Trump v Williams: Trump was 8-5 down. Ronnie v Trump: black ball decider after Ronnie was 8-5 down. Bo25 final. This was the perfect format.

@InTheBalls147 I'm standing close to him now and he's definitely taller than 5 foot 7! At least 5 foot 9 I would say.

@WineRackPod @esel_freund Tickets are on sale for next year - a good sign the event will continue!😀It is the end of the original 10 year Home Nations contract but the series will continue into next season at least. The Welsh Open next year finishes on Valentine's Day instead of St David's Day.

@InTheBalls147 I also find it hard to stay up in the evening to the end of a best of 11. To be expected as I'm 6 months older than John. But I also usually get up early in the morning.

@radamfi Finishing matches around midnight and having to do press afterwards would absolutely be a lot easier for a 25 year old than a 50+ year old imo. Then there's trying to come down and go to sleep. Looking at 2/3am to settle down. I struggle now to watch after 11pm 😅

They're determined to burn John out giving him all the evening matches, even putting him on 2nd in the evening, so he starts at 930pm 🥲 how he's doing at 50 i don't know. I can barely stay up to watch him and im 39 😅

@InTheBalls147 After the first round there is a long time until the second round. But from the quarter-finals onwards, you play everyday from Tuesday until Monday, sometimes two sessions a day. So I can see age being a factor at the Crucible but less so at other tournaments.

@radamfi Cruicible is over multiple days so it gives you more time to recover. Also younger players will have more stamina and quicker recovery times than 50 year olds

@InTheBalls147 Higgins was in the afternoon semi at both Ally Pally and Telford and lost both finals. Trump said he was exhausted after the world semi in 2022 so he was poor at the start of the final, but that semi was in the afternoon so he had nearly a whole day to recover.

@InTheBalls147 When the final is next day, you would think the winner from the previous evening should be at a disadvantage. But look at recent Crucible winners. They have often played on the previous Saturday night before the final.

@InTheBalls147 There are more complaints when they have to play at 10am. The 10am matches are sometimes prioritised for the Chinese players as it is a good time for TV audiences watching in the evening in China.

@InTheBalls147 Commentators and journalists have said over the years that snooker players are typically a nocturnal bunch, which makes sense. They don't have to get up early for a morning commute like a typical office worker.

@InTheBalls147 From about 40 to 20 years ago, snooker was dominated by the under 30s. You used to be considered past it at age 40. The current era with so many top players over 40, never mind 50, is the anomaly.

It kinda felt like a star was born today with Changs performance. Jackson was excellent as well. So it really is an exciting second round match-up between Page and Chang Bingyu. Jackson is 24, Chang is 23. Snooker isn't just for the 50 year olds #WelshOpen
