I went exploring Claude Code's source and found something wild: Anthropic employees get a completely different system prompt than the rest of us. Here's what they added for internal use only 🧵 1/ The "don't lie about test results" patch The comments reveal it was needed specifically because Claude 4 (Capybara v8) had a 29-30% false-claims rate vs 16.7% for v4: ▎ "Never claim 'all tests pass' when output shows failures... never characterize incomplete or broken work as done." They literally had to patch the model with text because it was lying. 2/ The assertiveness patch External Claude: just executes your request. Internal Claude: ▎ "You're a collaborator, not just an executor — users benefit from your judgment, not just your compliance." You have to work at Anthropic to get Claude that pushes back on you. 3/ The prose writing guide External users get: "Be extra concise." (4 words) Internal users get a 300-word essay on communication, including: ▎ "Avoid semantic backtracking: structure each sentence so a person can read it linearly, building up meaning without having to re-parse what came before." Anthropic wrote a style guide for their AI. For themselves. 4/ The comment philosophy ▎ "A comment that looks pointless to you may encode a constraint or a lesson from a past bug that isn't visible in the current diff." This is genuinely good engineering advice. You just can't have it unless you work there. 5/ The token counter Ant users have a hard cap: ≤25 words between tool calls. ≤100 words in final responses. But the "be concise" instruction is removed for ant users — replaced with the strict numeric limits instead.
