@TheGopalan I don't think this is Vishnu. The weapons in his hands don't match. It's likely Indra worshipping Shiva and the elephants beneath are either 8 cardinal directions or a unique representation of Airavatha Elephant.

An extremely rare sculpture! I have not seen anywhere else! Pl post in reply if anyone of u have seen! Maha Vishnu praying to Shiva who is in the form of Lingam. The lingam is carried by 8 elephants! (Sadly very worn-out one!) Kailasanathar temple!

Wondering if this is just a random coincidence. I doubt My hunch is that perhaps there was a norm of placing हनुमान् opposite नरसिंह as a means of pacifying the latter After all, हनुमान् is known for his wisdom and prudence नरसिंह for his rage and aggression!

In Namakkal (TN), we have the हनुमान् temple exactly opposite the famous shrine of Lord नरसिंह Interestingly the same geographic position of the two deities is observed in Saligrama (near Udupi, KA) where the हनुमान् temple is opposite the गुरु नरसिंह shrine!

@TMahrattas Curious, why do many depictions of Chattrapathi Shahu Maharaja shown him without an upper garment and loose hair (almost like an ascetic) . Conspicuously missing is also the usual trappings of emperors of the time like a dagger, sword etc @TMahrattas ?

@raghavendra It’s a mystery. Doesn’t look like a minor Devata & it supposedly was the centerpiece of a shrine. Looks like a Modaka in one hand & perhaps even a tusk in another - could it be a human faced Ganesha?
