Hesperia, CA - San Bernardino County Fire is continually pursuing new ways to enhance service through technology, innovation, and strong partnerships. In late April, County Fire hosted a demonstration featuring an autonomous water-dropping helicopter designed to support early wildfire suppression. Developed by @rainindustries and @Sikorsky (a @LockheedMartin company), this advanced aerial system integrates two separate autonomy platforms. Together, they enable the helicopter to operate with or without a crew, track fire movement, fill its water bucket, and deliver targeted drops with precision. The demonstration also featured support from Wildfire Water Solutions, which provided a 189,000 gallon water tank for the operation. This company is contributing new tools to help suppress large-scale wildfires through rapid response strategies. #SBCoFD remains committed to identifying the most effective resources available to contain wildfires quickly. Technology like this supports rapid suppression during the early moments of a fire, protecting lives and property across the communities we serve.

Rain has demonstrated early ignition detection and autonomous rapid response with a Black Hawk helicopter multiple times, most recently on Oct 29 2024 in red flag conditions with three missions commanded by U.S. Fire Administrator @DrLoriUSFA, @OCFireAuthority Assistant Chief Tim Perkins, and Air Tactical Group Supervisor Mike Deacon. Putting out fires before they spread does not seem like a serious technological challenge in a world with @SpaceX, @xai and @anduriltech. So @elonmusk and @PalmerLuckey, why don’t we start a company that uses satellites, AI, and drone technology to put out fires before they spread? One can envision satellite monitoring, rapid drone investigation, and drone swarm water delivery. The number of drones sent to extinguish the fire and the nature of the extinguishing agent (water, foam, dry or wet chemicals etc) would be a function of the nature and scale of the fire. No human lives would be put a risk and there is no risk of DEI involvement in drone selection. What do you think? I would love to invest. And it would be very good for real estate values in California.
