There’s nothing “culturally relevant” about this book, yet my students are spellbound by it. They know (and appreciate) a good story when they hear it, and this is one of the best. Read great books to and with children!

@0Beanie05923291 My district implemented Into Reading this year, (my 29th year) and it’s been my worst year. The teacher manual and all the things makes my head explode. I spend more time trying to figure out the examples, what the goal is in each reading. It shouldn’t be that complicated.

The future of education in America got very personal last week as I welcomed my first grandchild into the world. I will do what I can to help his parents navigate his education journey, but he’ll be living and working among millions of others and it's my desire that the majority of them are well-educated, virtuous, and self-governing individuals. Onward and upward!

@DerrickEvans4WV Our newest curriculum is riddled with activism and poor literature samples. (I can barely call it that) If I taught it word for word I’d be instilling ridiculous ideologies in my students. Instead, I teach the skills/concepts with quality literature that doesn’t scream “woke”.

An educator visits a local classical school and is amazed by what students can do: kindergarteners name all continents, first graders write in cursive, kids work calmly without chaos. Classrooms are simple with only useful educational materials. She asks why schools stopped teaching this way and wants it available to more families through charter schools and better teacher training.

Yes! This! It’s more difficult each year. And there are also children who just flat out don’t want to do the work because it’s not fun. 🤷🏼♀️ Since when was learning supposed to be all fun? Sometimes it’s not. Sometimes it is. Learning to persevere through it is another necessity.

Dear Parents—your child doesn’t need to be the smartest in the class, the best on the field, or the most talented in the room. But they do need to be teachable. We’ve raised a generation that can Google every answer, but too many are forgetting how to listen, respect, and learn. Being teachable isn’t about grades or intelligence—it’s about humility. It’s about realizing you don’t know everything and being willing to grow when someone tries to help you. As parents, we don’t need to raise perfect kids. We need to raise kids who can take feedback without falling apart. Who can apologize. Who can show respect even when they disagree. Who can be corrected without becoming combative. Because teachability will take them further than talent ever will.
