Indeed! To conflate a Rasgulla with an Idli is not just a culinary error; it is a profound cosmological misunderstanding.
To begin with, the comparison is practically a biological impossibility. She is comparing chhena (the delicate, squeaky, pristine curd of milk) with a meticulously fermented batter of parboiled rice and black gram (urad dal). Their compositions are from entirely different kingdoms. One is an airy, spongy lattice designed to trap light sugar syrup; the other is a dense, wholesome, steamed matrix of complex carbohydrates and proteins. Their taste, consistency, structural integrity, and existential purpose share absolutely nothing in common.
But more important, her attempt to dismiss the Idli as merely a blank canvas for sugar syrup does a grave disservice to what is arguably one of the greatest engineering marvels of the culinary world.
The Idli is not a mere "bland cake." It is a masterclass in biotechnology. To achieve the perfect Idli is to balance the delicate microflora of wild fermentation over a cold night, resulting in a steamed cloud that is a triumph of gut health, lightness, and nutritional balance. It is a savoury monolith of South Indian culinary genius, perfectly engineered to absorb the sharp tang of a well-spiced sambar or the fiery depth of a molaga-podi (gunpowder) paste infused with cold-pressed sesame oil or nutritious melted ghee.
To suggest an Idli would even consent to being drowned in sugar syrup is to fundamentally misunderstand its dignity.
If this lady finds Rasgullas overrated, argue that on the merits of their sponginess or sweetness. But please, leave the noble, perfectly fermented, steamed majesty of the Idli out of your dessert-table polemics, ma'am!

There were many reasons for opposing the Delimitation Bill. Two have been widely discussed. It was a cynical move to link women’s reservation which is now non controversial with a dodgy delimitation scheme. And the South was dismayed by a bill that gave more seats to the Hindi belt .
But there was another concern. Most Indians have become disillusioned with politicians and with the electoral process where each individual election involves spending hundreds of crores raised from businessmen through bribes and favour granting. They are as fed up of the crores spent on corrupting MPs to switch sides.
They also see less & less public benefit in parliament where biased presiding officers shut up anyone who is doing the job that MPs are supposed to do: raising issues of public
importance & questioning
the government .
Nor do they think the tax payer gets any value from most MPs who live off public funds & do little to help ordinary Indians
The new bill would have created hundreds of new MPs & involved thousands of crores of expenditure both officially &
in black money.
People just did not see the point in creating more MPs.
If the government wants to add hundreds of MPs then it should at least let parliament function effectively & fairly
Because people are fed up of a chamber that serves no
purpose other than to rubber stamp executive decisions, make politicians rich, increase corruption & waste public funds.
This is not how the Constitution envisaged the role of parliament

I collected my mother's CT Scan film from the diagnostic center at 9 pm in the night.
- The diagnostic center said Radiologist will come at 11 AM next day and will prepare the report based on it
- The ENT specialist said he'll only be available after 3 PM next day
- I got back home from diagnostic center and rather than spend an anxious night with uncertainty, I decided to use AI to do some analysis myself.
- I fed the CT scan film images to @GeminiApp asking for a diagnosis and also A) what the radiologist would recommend in his report & A) what the ENT would suggest for further treatment based on the report
- Gemini was ~99% accurate with the verbiage with the report that came out from the Radiologist next day
- Visited the ENT at 3 PM and no surprise - he suggested the likely course of treatment prescribed by Gemini the earlier night (with some minor deviations)
While we may be still some distance away from having AGI treat patients without a 'human in the loop', these kind of AI advancements are so reassuring that technology is meant to make human lives better.
Thanks @Google!

Every evening, as Mohali slows down, one 70-year-old chooses to show up with warmth.
Near Sectors 54–55, on the road towards Franco Road, he quietly serves free chai to anyone passing by his home. No banner, no announcement. Just a simple act of seva that has continued for over a year.
Winters bring steaming cups of tea. Summers bring both chai and cold drinks. But what truly stays constant is the feeling he offers, that someone cares enough to pause for you.
In a world chasing bigger things, he reminds us that sometimes, the smallest gestures leave the deepest impact.

Apartment in a posh locality(Thanks to Mom)
Have a driver - no traffic chaos for work - when we go out (movie or dining out) - it’s always past 10pm to avoid traffic.
Blinkit/Zepto/Swiggy.

International Vacation every 6 months to cool off.
We are inherently very outdoorsy- which is one the many reason why we love Japan. It extraordinarily pedestrian friendly.
We absolutely love the long walks at night.

I know a married couple who live in same society as I do. Both work from home, with a combined package of over 60 - 70 lakhs. Have a car but hardly go out. Have a pet dog and full-time house help. Rarely go out thanks to Blinkit, Swiggy, UrbanClap, etc. They take one foreign trip every 3-4 months. This is the new lifestyle that many urban couples are living today - either inside a gated society or a flight abroad.

I recently took an international flight into the US, and it was really strange. The flight was full of Indians who honestly seemed to be from somewhere pretty remote; it was obvious quite a few of them had never been on an airplane before.
The woman next to me didn’t know how to buckle her seatbelt; she didn’t know how to put her bag in the overhead storage; she had a phone charger she didn’t know how to plug in either. She couldn’t really speak English beyond “You help.” when she wanted me to help her do something or “You want?” while repeatedly pointing down — I figured out she was trying to trade seats with me (I said no, and she just clicked her tongue in disapproval). I saw various interactions between the Indians in the seats around me and the flight attendants — none of them could speak English, using primarily hand gestures to communicate; they were also extremely dismissive and almost rude to the flight attendants, never thanking them, shoving trash in their faces expectantly, waving them away with a flick of the wrist.
The bathroom situation was pretty unfortunate. I wanted to pee before we took off, and I was behind two of them in line. They both went, and when it was my turn, I saw that the most recent person hadn’t flushed, leaving a large amount of fecal matter in the toilet bowl. There was also a new hand soap dispenser which was still unopened, which informed me that the two previous passengers had not washed their hands. And, I kid you not, there were footprints on the toilet seat. I think they were squatting over it.
None of this is to pick on random people on a flight — I was just struck by how unfamiliar this cohort was with airplanes, by their total lack of English, by their non-Western behaviors and clothes, and by the fact that despite all of this, they were somehow flying to the US (final destination unknown). They were not a unified group either; I didn’t get the impression that the different families/individuals knew each other. If it was just a single family, it might not be that weird, but it was dozens. I had never seen anything like it before

Side effects of not eating junk are real.
Recently it was a team dinner, and we went to a 5-star hotel. There were n number of dishes; just name it and you will get it.
Everyone ate everything: starter, main course, desserts, and mocktail.
Whereas I just ate "dal-chawal"
The sad part is it's not like I am controlling myself, but my body can't digest it anymore; the moment I eat bread, after an hour it feels like indigestion.
I recommend eating junk once a month so your body might get used to it and you don't always have to look for healthy options.

@beastoftraal That’s the case with hotels also no upgrades whatsoever you only get the rooms you have booked ! Hmm must be the Genz thought process where customer delight doesn’t exists anymore. !

Was in an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Mumbai, and an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru last week. In the first class section (Stretch seats in IndiGo), only 20-30% seats were occupied. While there are some methods (flyer miles, among others) to upgrade people from economy/premium economy to first class, I wonder if it makes sense to offer the empty first-class seats to people from the economy class based on just a pick of the lot (lucky draw, through the airline app's software) 🙂
The seats are going empty, and the airline would have the food planned for those seats too, anyway (which may not be reused for another flight). So why not increase the chance of happiness for the people in the economy class and let that create an overall positive perception for the airline brand? Since it is not based on any preconditions and the selection is purely based on luck, it would seem largely fair to all.
It would also be something to look forward to, before the flight takes off.
Of course, I can fully anticipate the concerns. This may erode the loyalty program value proposition. There is bound to be some operational issues too - what if one from a family of 4, or a couple, is chosen? Perhaps offer it to another person if the chosen one refuses? Would the people who paid for the first class 'look down' upon both the winner and the airline for supposedly messing with their paid elevation to first class? There are a lot more issues that I can think of. Junking this idea is very easy - so don't waste time in this direction. Instead, think of ways to make it work.
So, can a middle path be offering this only on specific days, like every Wednesday - 'Magical Mondays', or 'Terrific Tuesdays', or 'Wow Wednesdays'? And only to those who have installed the airline's app, offering a great incentive to have the app on the phone?
Or, make it luck + a nominal charge (of say, Rs. 200/500) for the chosen one, to maintain some semblance of revenue too.
Good idea?

Interviewed a backend developer.
Guy was at 21 LPA. We offered 28 LPA, roughly a 33 percent hike. He agreed and confirmed joining.
Yesterday he emailed saying he got a 32 LPA offer elsewhere and now wants 36 LPA from us.
Nonsense. Why agree in the first place.
If you are still shopping offers just say it upfront. We stopped interviewing other candidates and waited through the notice period for the joining date.
Now two days before joining, he came back with a new price tag.
