In Middle Ages, women labeled as ""Talkative"" faced harsh repercussions: they were forced to wear an iron mask designed to muffle their words. This device, known as the ""scold's bridle,"" originated in Germany and was used from 1550 to 1800 as a tool of oppression against those considered rebellious. The mask featured an exaggerated nosepiece and sharp restraints around the mouth, along with a headpiece adorned with bells, symbolizing blatant social control. While it primarily targeted women, men were also subjected to this punishment for blasphemy or as a means to contain prisoners. This cruel device serves as a chilling reminder of a dark period in history when freedom of speech was severely restricted, and those who defied societal expectations faced extreme public humiliation. #drthehistories
