Potassium is critical to optimal health and longevity. A simple thing can significantly cut your risk of stroke, high blood pressure (hypertension), heart disease and death: Potassium. To make sure you consume enough potassium, take around 2,000 mg of extra potassium per day on top of a healthy, potassium-rich diet. A study with 20,000 people found that replacing normal salt (sodium chloride) with a small amount of potassium chloride salt (such as the brand Lo-Salt - salt substitute) decreased the risk of stroke by 14%, cardiovascular events by 13%, and death by 12%. nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NE… Increasing your intake of potassium is also a great way to reduce high blood pressure (hypertension). 30% to 40% of all the energy our body consumes goes to activating tiny molecular pumps that pump potassium back into our cells (and sodium out of the cells). Most people in the West only consume around 2,250 mg of potassium per day. An adequate dose of potassium is 4,700 mg of potassium per day. Check with your physician if you have kidney disease.

Bell peppers, Sweet peppers. ~Super- rich in antioxidant Vitamin C,and great food for fighting off colds,asthma,bronchitis, respiratory infections, cataracts,macular degeneration,angina,atherosclerosis and cancer. ~Red peppers have significantly higher nutrient levels than green,including lycopene,which help protect against cancer of the prostate, cervix,bladder, and pancreas and lowers the risk of heart diseases. Cooking lowers vitamin C levels in green peppers ,but increases their beta- carotene content. Red peppers including Romano peppers offer superior amounts of nutrients and antioxidants to other coloured peppers.yellow and red peppers contain 3times as much Vitamin C as an Orange. ~The sweet peppers are part of nightshade family, which include tomatoes,potatoes,and aubergines.Peppers are rich in antioxidants that benefit heart and the eye,their vitamin C content boosts collagen levels and they may also help to prevent lungcancer.they are great for our skins and bones as there vitamin C is necessary for the synthesis of collagen ,the main structural protein in the body that maintains the integrity of blood vessels, skin and bones. ~Bell peppers are great for the health of our eyes possibly due to combination of beta- carotene, VitaminC,lutein,and Zeaxanthin,they also protect against cataracts and age related vision loss.Their antioxidant ,including beta- carotene, capsanthin,quercetin and luteolin have been shown to prevent the oxidation of cholesterol,the cause of free -radicals damage to the heart and blood vessels.Diets high in antioxidants can also help prevent blood clots formation and reduce risk of strokes. ~Beta- cryptoxanthin ,found mostly in red peppers ,may help prevent lung cancer in those at risk..
