Multiple Douglas County Volunteer Fire Departments are sending several volunteer crews and apparatus to help with the fire suppression of the Cottonwood Fire and Morrill Fire in western Nebraska.
Crews left the Boys Town Fire Department at 10am this morning.
Fire Chief Nick Thoreen from Boys Town Fire is the lead on this deployment and will also be responding out west with the crews.

🎄 ’Twas the night before Christmas, and Santa was already on the move… 🎅
Santa has been seen making his rounds in the area, and one of his early stops was right here at the fire station.
We were able to catch up with Santa after he experienced a bit of sleigh trouble. With a full schedule and many presents still to deliver, we were happy to assist by lending him one of our fire trucks to help keep him on track 🚒🎁
So if you hear a cheerful “Ho Ho Ho!” or see flashing red lights traveling through town, please don’t be alarmed — it’s not an emergency. It’s simply Santa and his reindeer making their way to a rooftop near you.
The Ralston Fire & Rescue Department would like to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas and a joyful holiday season. 🎄✨

🔥 Continuous Training. Broader Experience. Stronger Service.
Our members don’t just train with peers and our training cadre, they’re also fortunate to participate in outside training opportunities, whether its with neighboring departments or out-of-state programs. These experiences give our firefighters a wide range of skillsets and the chance to learn from different agencies, instructors, and experience levels.
Earlier this month, six of our members attended a two-day Truck Company course in North Liberty, Iowa through Iowa Fire Nuggets. When they return, they bring back new knowledge, techniques, and perspectives to share with the rest of the team.
Most importantly, they continue to sharpen their skills and hone their craft so they can better serve our community and be prepared for any situation.
🚒 Always training. Always improving. Always ready.

This past Saturday, members of Ralston Fire & Rescue participated in the Salute to Veterans Breakfast and Celebration at Defiance Harley-Davidson on 72nd Street.
Our members provided Engine 133 for display and had the privilege of meeting and thanking many of our nation’s heroes for their service and sacrifice.
We’re proud to stand alongside those who have given so much to protect our freedom. Thank you, veterans today and every day, we salute you! ❤️🤍💙

Did you know?
Our members dedicate a minimum of 40 hours of training every year to ensure they’re always ready to respond when you need them most!
Every Tuesday night, our members gather for department-wide training. One night each month focuses on continuing education for our EMT and Paramedic licenses, instructed by the Metropolitan Community College EMS Program. The remaining Tuesdays are devoted to fire-based or combination-based training, bringing together our Firefighter/EMT members and EMS Only members for everything from tabletop exercises to full-scale response scenarios.
Beyond scheduled sessions, members also take the initiative to train independently or in small groups, sharpening their skills and helping new members be prepared and learn new skills at all times of the day.
Continuous training and education are the foundation of our department’s readiness and excellence. We’re proud of our members dedication to learning and serving the Ralston Community! Here is a couple photos from this past week’s trainings conducted.

As you set your clocks back tonight, don't forget to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors!
✅Replace batteries if needed
✅Test each alarm to make sure it's working
✅Check the expiration date -- most detectors need replacing every ten years!
A quick minute could save lives -- protect your home and your loved ones.
