@amrevveejnas Can I make a gentle suggestion? One social skill that will take you further in life is letting people be surprised instead of telling them how their realization was actually obvious

In Morocco, our hotel sent someone to escort us through airport immigration and help with bags. A nice touch I've always loved these Bentley Bentaygas. I imagined that one day I'd get one, so it was shocking that THIS was the hotel car they sent (~$300k car) The interior was beautiful. But after sitting in it for a few minutes...I realized it's just a car. Very nice and I'm glad I had the chance to ride in one, but I'm fine never owning one of these in my life

I just spent three nights at a luxury hotel in Santa Monica. When I say I’ve never experienced such a great level of service, I mean it. The staff were willing to cater to every whim or anticipate it. The concierge overheard me talking to a bartender about a local attraction and he mentioned they had complimentary passes to that attraction. I later left my cocktail at the bar as I went to dinner with my date, and the bartender personally found me to deliver my cocktail.

Incredible! Donald Trump is the most aggressive lib of all time He found the most extreme right wingers in America & surgically punished them for their hateful beliefs by raising their gas prices, costing them thousands via tariffs, and taking their money via crypto scams
Jane Says@CitizenJaneSays

I’m paying close to $300 a tank to run my truck. And that’s not including gas for farm activity. I have a farm. I can’t haul any livestock ANYWHERE. Neither can my neighbors who have cattle. One of them sold all his cattle and he’s out of the business. I know many farmers who grow hay, wheat, pumpkin, corn, cattle and they’re going under. People do not understand how much trouble we are in as a country.

@EWErickson Erick, you're a grown man and it's time you learned how marginal tax rates work. This is embarrassing I published this 17 years ago in my bestselling book, I Will Teach You To Be Rich. Send me your ZIP code & I'll send you the location of your nearest public library

One of the side benefits of this hell site is you get to see people who think of themselves as experts reveal they don't really know what they are talking about, but presume themselves smarter than the legion of accountants and lawyers who help athletes navigate their finances.
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

I cannot believe this. Kelsey Plum really thinks that if she earned a dollar more (giving her a million-dollar salary), she would have to pay an extra $13,000 in income tax. That is not how marginal tax rates work! If she earned a dollar more, she'd pay an extra 13 cents.

I respect that farmers had the right to vote for what they believed in I also respect that they are now facing the consequences of their adult decision I’m not interested in fawning profiles of how noble they are. You voted for this, you got it

@big_pedestrian Drivers become very, very angry if you tell them they’re subsidized. It’s quite hilarious

Driving is one of the most subsidized things we do. Harvard estimated $12K/yr in subsidies: every aspect of land use (parking mandates, LOS), oil subsidies and military action to procure it, police and fire, and insurance that only requires the driver cover $25K in bodily injury.
Dominic Pino@DominicJPino

D.C. transit ridership has recovered from the pandemic better than most U.S. transit systems, after falling further. Yet taxpayers who don’t take the train or bus are increasingly subsidizing those who do, and it’s not sustainable. 🧵

The next Dem who runs for president should run promising that Americans who get a raise will no longer lose money because of higher taxes and promise that from now on, the higher tax rate will only apply to your additional income, not the income under that amount.

Observations from people sharing their net worth on my podcast (-$55K to $80 million): - The vast majority of people have never calculated their net worth - When I ask, “What do you think about those numbers?” most people say the same thing: “I wish they were higher.” - They do not understand what the numbers mean. Almost nobody can translate “$325,000 in investments” to “$2.4 million in retirement, which means ~100k/year in retirement income” - Hearing their retirement income is too low is one of the most powerful ways to motivate change - A surprising number of people struggle to read the numbers out loud. They literally cannot sound the numbers out What do you think? What would you like me to ask next time?

A stay at a hotel near you (with childcare arranged). When you both arrive, have a spa appointment already set up. Ask the concierge to set up dinner in a special location. Print out a photo of your wife when she had your first kid. Tell her why you loved her that day and what you love about her since then Beautiful Ritz Carlton robe. In the pockets, put pics of your kid(s) and a message of what you love about her. Get this robe: shop.marriott.com/brands/the-rit… Lots of other ideas depend on what she loves. This is your chance to shine. Use all your resources to make it special for her

I talked to a 37yo old woman who feels BEHIND with her money. Why? She once saw a cartoon graphic on Fidelity that made her feel behind. She's on track for $11 million (!) but it's still not enough This is how many of us make decisions about our money that last for decades
