I’ve seen Cambridge United lose midweek at Hyde and Southport and Salisbury. I’ve just seen them win at Newcastle, one of the greatest results in the history of the football club. The FA Cup will always be important.

I made a list in my head of people who would already be making plans to go to this and checked the comments and my list was bang on.

Two obvious headlines here. Excellent news that United had an extension in Jake Eastwood’s contract, and James Brophy will surely do well for himself having been such a major part of the squad for five years.

The latest outstanding content from the @AbbeyStandPod guys is out now. Promotion day chat is always fun, and you get to hear which absolute legend sent Julian this prediction for the season back in July. It was me, but still listen anyway.

How about this morning?

Cannot tell you how relieved I am to see Cambridge United promoted automatically and not have to deal with Grimsby away in the first leg of the playoffs. Partly because Grimsby are in great form, mostly because it’s on my wife’s birthday.

There'll be bags of nerves (in the away end at least) next week, but one to enjoy today. U's win big, deservedly, played well, Gibbons scored a real corker. If you'd started the season saying win on the last day + you'll be promoted you'd have taken it, that's the state of play.

U’s have been good, had all the chances, got the goal they deserved and should have more. We’ve seen this one before quite a lot of times. Need the second goal.
