It’s funny to me how confused so many people were by this scene because the metaphor felt pretty obvious. I also think part of it comes from younger audiences not really watching older films or television anymore. Nobody really introduces this generation to classic cinema from the 1910s–1940s. If more people watched movies and shows from those eras, I honestly think they’d understand shows like Euphoria a lot more. Sam Levinson is clearly obsessed with old cinema, and you can see those influences throughout his episodes. A lot of viewers don’t even notice how much visual and symbolic detail gets layered into each scene, especially in season 3.
