@somnath1978 Had Musharaf not faced advocates ire in pak , his four point formula would have been a done deal as MMS was also keen on that.. so ruling out talks isn't advisable imho ....

We shd stop pretending extending a hand of friendship to the devil earns any brownies, esp if the devil is of the islamist variety. Hitting Pak hard periodically earns us periods of peace - that is our best case. Keep Pak weak, bankrupt, mired in strife - our peace strategy..
Arzan Tarapore@arzandc

As @luvpuri argues, Op Sindoor did not deter Pakistan. We should stop pretending terrorism has a military solution.

Wrong objective framing = incorrect inferences. It is near-impossible, short of wars (mostly not even then), to chg "behaviour". Each action though queers the decisioning matrix for Pak. Surgical strikes -> Balakot -> Sindoor - each added some yrs of peace...
Manish Tewari@ManishTewari

The Kinetic Actions from 7 th-10 th May 2025 should make us ask ourselves only one question: Were they successful in changing/ mitigating the feral behaviour of the Pakistani Military that now fully own’s a piece of real estate called Pakistan ? This is the only question that really matters. The rest is whataboutery.

I understand venerable naval veterans debating strategic value of GNI. The econ viability of the transshipment hub is different. Why confuse strategic & commercial? It’ll be built by a company, not govt, and surely not the Navy. Nobody’ll invest 6-8 billion $ if it isn’t viable?
Nitin A. Gokhale@nitingokhale

Sandeep, you may want to read this too. On a lighter note, GNI appears to have divided Indian Naval veterans down the middle! 😄 At the crossroads of trade and power, Great Nicobar positions India to reshape regional shipping and reduce strategic dependence. stratnewsglobal.com/india/great-ni…

@somnath1978 It isn't much complicated i guess. He was fooled by Bibi that Iran will be destroyed by US - ISRAEL onslaught and he took the risk thinking the same . That's why FS went to Iranian embassy reconciling the fact they have got it all wrong. There is no logical reason other than dis

Some day, someone will perhaps write the inside story of why Modi visited Israel 2 days b4 the shooting started. Disregarding Amitava Ghosh and his ideological moorings, it is intensely puzzling at a realpolitik level too...
Shashank Mattoo@MattooShashank

Amitav Ghosh: India has completely lost its way diplomatically. Modi was hugging Netanyahu in Israel just before the Iran war. This stand is not popular in India. Journalist: Can you really say this stand not popular? Or is just not popular with your kind of people?

Everybody is talking about a ground offensive. It could be the case. But keep one thing in mind: the US doesn't have enough combat troops in West Asia to launch any ambitious ground invasion of Iran--a country of 90 million that's 70 times bigger than Israel. Some say trump might order to seize some islands in the Persian Gulf. Possible. Kharg Island is some 200 km from the Saudi coast. Abu Musa, which is controlled by Iran and claimed by the UAE, is some 60-70 om from the Emirati coast. Let's say the US troops managed to seize of them. How are they going to hold them? And even if they did, how is it going to impact the outcome of the war?

Fear-mongering👇. India has a gas supply crisis, not a generic fuel supply crisis. Crude oil sources are diversified, the external account is sufficiently robust to absorb $100 oil price, refining capacity far exceeds domestic demand.
M K Venu@mkvenu1

As India grapples with its worst fuel crises it may be worth recalling that that the average Russian discount of roughly $11 per barrel India got after the Ukraine war amount to a saving of over $115 billion as per a report in FT. It is time some of this came to the poor!

I don't know whether you know this. An interesting data. Tamil Nadu with just 6% of India’s population, owns a whopping 28% of country's gold. It goes without saying that the state is number one in gold ownership. You know who is number two? Maharashtra owning 15% of country's gold. I always say perception is not reality. We assume many things and take it as truth. Always verify. For example, ask anyone. They would say Kerala is number one in gold. No doubt Keralites love gold. But it owns only 6% of country's gold, ranking number four after Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.

@dmuthuk Dada every developing country will be unequal . U can't compare 2700 $ per capita with 50000 $ per capita ...The more per capita increase the less unequal even india would become .. that's how countries develop

Loving the country does not mean ignoring the reality. There are arguments that in every country, only top 10% would thrive and the rest 90% struggles. So then what's unique about India? India is definitely unique in terms of poverty and inequality. I mentioned top 10% of Indians earn 57% of national income. Whereas in countries like Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, France and many others, top 10% earn only around 25% of national income. Even in an inequal society like US, top 10% earn no more than 30% of national income. I've given below GDP percapita of top 10 countries (not including tiny countries) both absolute and for the bottom 90%. See for yourself. For example, GDP percapita of US is $89,105. If you remove top 10%, the balance still has a decent GDP percapita of $68,800. Here is the list: United States: $89,105 and $68,800 Germany: $55,911 and $47,100 United Kingdom: $54,949 and $45,100 Canada: $53,558 and $45,800 France: $46,792 and $41,200 South Korea: $34,642 and $28,000 Japan: $33,956 and $27,900 Italy: $41,091 and $33,700 Australia: $64,547 and $52,300 Spain: $36,192 and $31,900 Not only we are creating less income and wealth but that too is very concentrated.

@VJSWRITER We really have to question what is normalcy in Kashmir? Lesser no terrorist acts doesn't mean there is no terrorism in Kashmir. my feeling is unless we put heavy penalty on Pakistan for terrorism in Kashmir ,it is only a matter of time that they will revive infiltration

The true sign of normalcy in JK would have been for VVIPs in Kashmir or on visit to reduce security and demonstrate, since there were no attacks on them, tourists were coming in record numbers and India / Bharat had been put on path of zero militancy, zero infiltration.

Right. When the Government maintains huge security convoys for VIPs in Kashmir without a single attack on them during the years of so-called normalcy, why did Government not have security for tourists in an isolated meadow even though nothing had happened there?

Veterans on WA groups: 70 percent - silent spectators. 10 percent - serial forwarders. 10 percent - active conspiracy theorists. 5 percent - certifiable. 4 percent - politicised. 1 percent - talk sense but not listened to.

Kathua is not under Northern Command 16 Corps. It is under Western Command 9 Corps at Yol (HP). 9 Corps is not into CIOPs. Hence, Kathua does not have RR grid or “reception area” for terrorists who penetrate the IB. Hence, we see ad hoc large mobilisation. Unified HQ vision?
