@rantyskeptic
Scientist. Skeptic. A little bit ranty. Not really comfortable “doing my own research” outside my field, but happy to be educated by people who know stuff.

@SingularTechie @nealtaparia Because the vast majority of people don’t want to live on handouts. They want to work reasonable hours and be able to support their family/lifestyle. People need a bit of help from time to time but don’t want to be reliant on it.
English

@nealtaparia I suspect that behind that idyllic vision, there’s much more that you’ve missed. What you describe could have turned into a comfortable society, dependent on public handouts, and yet it hasn’t. Why? That’s the missing question. I think…

@catturd2 Making money from overseas wars is what made
America great the first time around.

You have got to be freaking kidding me.

@ItaiYanai And if you’re in Australia, make sure you’re a Level E professor. 🙄 @arc_gov_au @nhmrc @ausgov

How to write a grant?
1. Write it for the reviewer, not you, the applicant.
2. Communicate in stories.
3. Make your story cohesive—leave no puzzling gaps.
4. Make your story resonate to keep the reviewer reading.
5. Accept chance and noise in peer-review.

@upstatefederlst It will be of inferior quality. There’s a reason Chinese goods are cheaper and Americans won’t accept those wages and conditions.

@RossKneeDeep The world is in a state thanks to the climate crisis and Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Trump did an exceptional job of scapegoating a bunch of different folks - mainly Biden and immigrants - for global problems and thereby present himself as the solution. (To stay out of prison.)
English

@DreadNobody @CBSNews Sadly, if Trump starts a global trade war, my own back yard is collateral damage. Anyway, good luck. I hope we’re all wrong about it.
English

@rantyskeptic @CBSNews 😂Ok, clown. Tend to your own backyard.

As Donald Trump readies to return to the Oval Office, U.S. retailers that depend on foreign suppliers are prepared to pass along the cost of his proposed import tariffs to consumers, potentially leading to higher prices for a range of products. cbsn.ws/48Lnwcc

@rantyskeptic @Prime_Headlines @CBSNews dont need the fucking economic cross, to bear, so some corp, which doesnt give a fuck about me anyways, here can gain a foothold
the 'brilliant' was sarcasm, if you didn't catch it
English

@WakkaChokka @polijunkie_aus Good luck, anyway. I hope I’m wrong, but I think you’re going to need a lot of it. Hopefully, Trump will surprise all his detractors, America will be a shining beacon, and the world will not be irrevocably fucked. 🤞
English

@WakkaChokka @polijunkie_aus Trump is making promises he can’t keep but he doesn’t care. It will keep him rich and out of prison.
English

@DreadNobody @JDRedding @Prime_Headlines @CBSNews But well done for gambling your future on a man who has bankrupted multiple businesses and achieved the appearance of success largely through fraud and manipulation. Just remember to blame him when his plans are shit.
English

@DreadNobody @JDRedding @Prime_Headlines @CBSNews Green energy is cheaper in the long run. Already cheaper than fossil fuels over here. It was spiking oil prices that drove up energy prices globally (thanks Putin) because we don’t yet have the energy security that local renewables provide.
English

@JDRedding @Prime_Headlines @CBSNews Indeed. How? By making everyone accept higher prices so that local manufacturers become competitive. Both things can be true at the same time. If you’re in a privileged position, you can probably afford this brand of patriotism/nationalism. What about those who can’t afford it?
English

@Prime_Headlines @CBSNews "Long run"
Just gonna have to make the little guy suffer, for the short run
Fucking brilliant
English

@NBarton @polijunkie_aus I only how that there are historians in the future who can look back and add his name to the list of people who were responsible for so much harm. I fear that his legacy might be a collapse of the civilisations that would record it as Trump America fucks the climate forever.
English

@rantyskeptic @polijunkie_aus This will take years to fully play out. There will be repercussions for decades, just like we feel Clinton's decisions still, allowing China into wto for example, Trump will result in things we will feel globally long after he dies.
English

@WakkaChokka @polijunkie_aus He didn’t cause the inflation here. Or in the UK. Or Europe. It was a global problem, largely caused by wars and energy insecurity - and past inaction on climate change. Remember to blame Trump when Musk breaks the functional government and his trade wars tank the economy.
English

@polijunkie_aus Biden directly caused inflation. Nothing to do with luck. When you print 5 trillion bucks and hand it out to your friends, the currency is devalued. He knew that and did it anyway.
English

If it didn’t have such awful consequences for the rest of the world, I could console myself that I’m not American. Feeling for my American friends. I hope your country isn’t broken beyond repair. Look out for whoever Trump chooses to scapegoat his inevitable failures. #sigh
