It’s wrong to think of the monkeypox outbreak in weeks or months. The outcome will reverberate for many, many years. Elimination would take the problem off the table. Endemicity would stretch on indefinitely. Mpx may not be esp deadly but that doesn’t mean it’s inconsequential.

Troubling rise in covid hospitalizations, especially in older adults in the southern and midwestern regions. Less than one in four people ages 65+ have received a fourth dose, and coverage in ages 50-64 is single digits.

Or is it also an instrument to avoid the worst outcomes by calling attention to a problem earlier? I'm not sure there is a clear answer to this at the moment...
