Anyone know what the probability is of 2 neoprene cycling gloves turning almost completely inside out after being in a washing machine (with a spin cycle) for 30minutes?!

@AjdDavison Congratulations @AjdDavison - what an incredible amount of research and more than a fair share of brilliant demos over the years through your leadership. Cheers!

Thanks Margarita! Very proud to have been awarded this alongside Alison Noble tonight, joining this remarkable list of BMVA Distinguished Fellows: bmva.org/information/fe… As I said in my speech, the UK has always been a great place to do creative research in computer vision.

I rarely post on X nowadays, but this occasion is definitely worth the exception: Prof @AjdDavison just got awarded the @TheBMVA Distinguished Fellowship. I am so proud and grateful to have been his #phd student! A scholar, a brilliant mentor & a constant source of inspiration!

@AjdDavison Recommend J von Neuman's "The computer and the brain". He intriduces the history from analog computing for various differential equations for physical models & why digital was invented. It's good to revisit as we see how few bits might be ok for stochastic like computation in AI

Does anyone know a good reference for implementing a Kalman Filter using analog computing?

@mpshanahan @mpshanahan just cycling along here in the UK and you're on the BBC radio4! I was just reading this tweet this morning 😂. I'm convinced we need more of your presence and awareness of your research. Also what was in section 2.4?

It helps (sadly) if you don't migrate fields too much, as I have done. You tend to lose visibility for your older work when you do. Also, I neglected a basic thing, which was to maintain a decent, up-to-date web page.

Reading a tweet is a bit like downloading an (attacker-controlled) executable that you instantly run on your brain. Each one elicits emotions, suggests knowledge, nudges world-view. In the future it might feel surprising that we allowed direct, untrusted information to brain.

Dear Mogg The liberal left woke sissies and lily-livered tank-top-wearing snowflakes are complaining that I wrote 'bollocks' on a report about Long Covid. Did Julius Caesar complain of shell shock? Semper elastoplast Boris

@AjdDavison Thanks @AjdDavison! There's lots to do (and a lot at the interface of online state estimation and ML). Your lab has been a major source of inspiring work for well over a decade on the fundamental building blocks that will enable low power compression of reality.

Brilliant recent talk from Richard Newcombe @rapideRobot (Meta Reality Labs) on the Project Aria wearable research device, contextualised AI, and always-on, low power distributed machine perception as the next big challenges in computer vision. youtu.be/hHsRg9NJ28Q?fe…

What an honour to win a PAMI Helmholtz Award at #ICCV2021. DTAM (ICCV 2011) is a paper with few results, and barely got in as a poster. But once @rapideRobot and @stevenjl got the big laptop to Barcelona we showed people a live dense SLAM and AR demo they had never seen before!

A fun blog from our team and partners with a real potential to increase the places we can use SLAM with our devices whenever you've on the move in vehicles!
Reality Labs at Meta@RealityLabs

What if we could make our time spent in cars more productive, social, and entertaining than ever before? That question is at the heart of our partnership with @BMWGroup—and today, we’re sharing a look at our joint research that leverages #ProjectAria and #MetaQuestPro tech.facebook.com/reality-labs/2…

Very proud, and still a bit shocked, to share that I've been elected Fellow of the Royal Society. Thank you to my students and collaborators from Imperial College, Oxford, AIST, Dyson, Slamcore and beyond, and of course to my supportive family and friends! royalsociety.org/people/andrew-…
