Yesterday, my dad found out I was running the Peachtree Road Race and said: “I’m gonna run it too.” With no training + ATL heat, hills & humidity. I was concerned but he did it and finished strong. His words at the end: “It’s mental — we can do whatever we put our minds to.”

Poor sushi. Every time someone wants to skip out on work or plans they blame her. “I had some bad sushi.”

The Waffle House food trucks have been around for years. They cater corporate/private events and help with disaster relief in hurricane/tornado zones, providing free or low-cost meals often alongside the Red Cross.

Still obsessing over these flavors. This plating is gorgeous but won’t happen in this household unless I retire or hit a jackpot. Who has time for this?

Tomorrow’s meal will be: Chicken (quarters or a Cornish hen) Broccoli Cornbread Mayyyyybe Mac & Cheese And the salad below (possibly topped w/ shrimp or scallops but perhaps that’s doing too much 🤔)

Gratitude Post! Quality time w/ my faves! Birthday + holiday + life celebrations 🥳🙏🏾 Had bomb vegan food (mash potatoes, curried chickpeas, a mushroom dish, quinoa, plantains, pastelitos, fritters) …. And didn’t cook a thing Went on a run Recovered from the turn up 🙏🏾

This 5-mile run was to confirm I’ll be able to run the January 10k in the allotted time. It was hard b/c I got zero sleep, didn’t eat, didn’t hydrate, didn’t bundle up enough, and yada yada. But it was good because I did what I intended to do even though I didn’t feel like it.

Was leaving at 11 p.m. when someone said: “why’re you running to go home? There’s nothing there but you. Stay here with the people and the joy.” That’s never enough to get me to stay but I put my purse down, made another drink, joined the line dance and stayed ‘til 2 a.m.

@emilykmay @IvanaDGreco 🎯🎯….. it’s 100% due to women being burned out. There are lots of family-oriented things I’ve stopped initiating or leading because I’m tired and need those days off to recover from everyday life duties. I only want to host big events once every 2-3 years now 🤷🏾‍♀️

@IvanaDGreco imo this reflects burnout from women, but when we just stop doing it...the whole community does suffer! we need men to be equal participants in this stuff so that's its more sustainable.

Don't give up on hosting holiday gatherings. Don't give up on family dinners. Contra what the NYT op-ed section tells you, eating together and celebrating together is how families stay together, and that is worth washing a lot of dishes for.
