After reading Breath by @MrJamesNestor, I see that the nose is way more of everything than most of us have ever thought. Whether you're a health nerd who's curious about how all our pieces work, or interested in the history of what makes us all go -- #Breath is worth a look.

Embracing the fact that your customers are a lot more heterogenous than you might like, and loosening your grip on the need to wedge them into tidy demographic buckets, you tend to focus on the underlying jobs these diverse folks turned to you for help with in the first place.

I'm often asked if customer insight #consulting & #coaching share anything or are they different pursuits..To me a bright common thread runs through both better questions & better listening to help people/org's see their growth possibilities from some new perch & and act on them.

So much helpful #growth info can be found beyond asking the crowd you already won over what they think of the thing you've already built.

Another question to jumpstart your customer learning journey. The questions can be about something big, small… doesn’t really matter, as long as it’s something you’re actively curious about AND will help you do something differently in the short run.

#atomichabits holds up really well based on how often ideas from it come up in coaching convos. Like the idea that willpower is over-rated. To be successful at habits,we’ll have better luck if they’re less about what we force ourselves to do & more about who we want to become.

Rather than the typical either-or view where you're fast or slow.... Festina Lente says you can both be focused on moving fast, and anchored in doing so with intention. And be defining what that tension means for you, your team, your situation as it evolves.

Good questions we don't ask enough, or often don't understand well. #customerlearning If you had a magic wand and could change anything you want about the experience, what would you change?

A good thing to ask yourself in relationships of all sorts "What am I thinking, feeling and NOT saying?" If there's a consistent thing you're not saying, an important thing... that's something to pay attention to. Here's to good hard questions and the pause to chew on them.

Seems to me the Q isn't if cancel culture is a thing, w/ risks - it is. But new (ask @thechicks)? Unique to 1 political home, any more than reconciliation & other "outrages"? Q is when do we get the courage to break the cycle, stop passing the cudgel back & forth every few years.

digging notion of "cognitive empathy" (distinct from emotional empathy). reminds me of coaching tenet, listening doesn't equal agreement. i.e. I can listen to you, really take in what you're saying, without it meaning I agree. nd to work it more. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…
