By incentivizing fresh, “human-made” content, Google is lobbying for a continuous supply of diverse training data for their future models.
This is mainly to both keep content quality high and avoid a potential "data collapse" if YouTube is flooded with synthetic content purely generated by AI.
While I think it’s overall a great policy, it's also a clear move to promote human creativity in order to secure the future of their AI models.

At first, it feels like a major win for creators who are making “human” content over low-effort AI, and it also feels like the bar for the quality of content will be higher overall.
But this isn't just about supporting creators, it's also strategic for Google.
What is probably the best AI video model available right now, Google’s Veo 3, was trained using YouTube videos as data.
They had years of original content and videos for their models, but now in the age of AI, things are different.
