"If you have anti- #domesticviolence laws, reporting mechanisms and shelters - that are unmatched in #Iraq - why are so many women and girls killed in such horrific ways across #Kurdistan Region? What is stopping them from accessing these services?" That was my first question when this research began in March 2023 . Today we have issued the answer in this @amnesty report: amnesty.org/en/documents/m…

For the past 13 days, imprisoned journalist Sherwan Sherwani has been on hunger strike in an Erbil prison, demanding that his legal rights be respected: the right to spend one week with his family and to serve the remainder of his sentence in Sulaymaniyah. In October last year, @RenwarNajm wrote about Sherwani’s “endless political persecution.” Read the full article below: theamargi.com/posts/the-endl…

16 years after the assassination of journalist #SardashtOsman, press groups renew calls to reveal his killers and improve press freedom. On May 3, 2010, Osman, then 23, was abducted in front of Salahaddin University in Erbil, where he was a student. Two days later, his body was found near Mosul with gunshot wounds to the head. The circumstances of his abduction and killing — including how he was transported across multiple checkpoints — have raised longstanding questions that remain unanswered. #PressFreedom peregraf.com/en/news/11613

Today’s attempted assassination of an activist in #Iraq’s Babel was facilitated by nothing more than the complete lack of accountability for previous killings. Those who killed and maimed protesters in Tishreen are left to hunt activists, protesters, and human rights defenders.

“He struck her with his weapon; her head hit the wall. I told him, ‘She’s dead,’ and he said, ‘Take her to the hospital,’ and they left.” — Hajj Walid Shamasneh, mourning his wife Sabriya, recounts how Israeli forces killed her in Qalqilya last night.

25 years ago, Kurdish activists in Washington built a plywood version of a prison cell across from the Turkish ambassador's residence and held a 217-day vigil to protest the continued imprisonment of Leyla Zana and other MPs. I report for the @wcp. washingtoncitypaper.com/article/782288…

Today, Israel’s parliament adopted the first in what threatens to be a series of laws facilitating the use of the death penalty, brazenly granting itself carte blanche to execute Palestinians while stripping away the most basic fair-trial safeguards. The international community must exert maximum pressure on the Israeli authorities to immediately repeal this law, fully abolish the death penalty, and dismantle all laws and practices that contribute to the system of apartheid against Palestinians amn.st/6017B6lpCx

14 Killed, 93 Injured: One Month of Iran-Linked Attacks in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Since the beginning of joint attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, the IRGC and its affiliated groups in Iraq have conducted at least 474 attacks targeting the U.S. Consulate, military bases, Kurdish opposition parties, Peshmerga bases, oil fields, and residential areas. Community Peacemaker Teams – Iraqi Kurdistan (CPT-IK) has documented these attacks and their impact on civilians. Attack Count As of 27 March 2026, 474 attacks occurred: the IRGC conducted 179, while affiliated groups carried out 295. The majority, 370 attacks, targeted Erbil (78.06%). Sulaymaniyah recorded 90 (18.99%), followed by Duhok with 11 (2.32%), and Halabja with 3 (0.63%). Although attackers claim to target intelligence and military facilities, CPT-IK observed that civilian areas and official institutions—none of which are parties to the conflict—were targeted 172 times (36.29%). Of the 474 attacks, 359 involved suicide drones (75.74%) and 104 involved missiles (21.94%). Notably, 60.76% of drone and missile attacks were intercepted or failed before impact. Casualty Count By 27 March 2026, 14 people were killed and 90 injured. On 28 March, approximately 37 additional attacks injured 3 more. From 28 February to 29 March 2026, Iran-linked attacks resulted in 107 total casualties: 14 killed and 93 injured. Of these, 19 were civilians. Additionally, attacks damaged 46 homes and 32 vehicles, leading to the suspension of education in regional schools and universities. Recommendations CPT-IK views these developments with deep concern. The targeting of civilian areas and government institutions indicates a potential expansion of the conflict. CPT-IK calls for an immediate end to attacks on both Iran and the Kurdistan Region. Affected civilians must be protected and compensated. The Iraqi government must pursue diplomatic efforts to protect Iraq and hold accountable all internal groups carrying out such attacks. A heart warming reminder of how long and how steadfastly some #Kurdish voices have fought to be heard. Justice movements don’t begin or end with headlines; they live on through people who refuse to give up.

Iraq continues to be the only country being attacked by both sides: Iran/proxies and US/Israel. A feeble and fragmented political system is being tested severely, designed to be weak from inception, the Iraqi state is unable to stop any of the attacks by force or negotiation.

Admiration for what? Honestly, this page has leaked so much information about sensitive places and areas which have been used to attack the Kurdistan Region. Even Sabreen News thanks them, imagine. Also, a lot of information that is twisted to benefit their own narrative. I would not admire anyone hiding behind an owl logo. 🤷🏻‍♂️
