RT News - March 24 2026 (17:00 MSK) rt.com/shows/news/635… While Donald Trump claims peace talks with Iran are well underway. Tehran says that's nothing but fake news, designed to manipulate financial and oil markets. As energy prices are on the rise again, threatening severe economic pain for Washington too. An Ex-Mossad official tells us, the US president is now just desperate to get out of his own war. Two tankers carrying fuel from the Gulf States bound for India, safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz. But they are the lucky ones, as scores of others remained backed up, waiting to get through the vital trade passageway.

RT News - March 24 2026 (09:00 MSK) rt.com/shows/news/635… Donald Trump says talks with Iran are underway to end the war but Tehran calls that a lie, as Israel insists its bombing campaign will carry on even if peace talks are underway. The destruction mounts, as Iran's retaliatory strikes pierce Israel's Iron Dome. While the IDF continues levelling parts of Tehran, RT reports from the scene. The IDF strikes civilian infrastructure in Lebanon as Israeli officials call for a new border to be established deep inside the sovereign territory of its northern neighbor. We report as residents are ordered to leave their homeland.

Thousands of missiles later: Why the Gulf still won’t go to war with Iran From drone strikes to economic risks, regional leaders are choosing restraint over retaliation – revealing deeper fears of escalation and unreliable alliances Published 23 Mar, 2026 rt.com/news/635912-wh… Speaking on Sunday at a site in Arad struck by an Iranian missile, where more than a hundred people were injured, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged more countries to join the war effort. “What more proof do you need that this regime that threatens the entire world has to be stopped? Israel and the United States are working together for the entire world. And it’s time to see the leaders of the rest of the countries join up.” Yet, despite this call, the response from much of the region has been notably restrained. Even close partners appear reluctant to get involved, including Gulf states that have been feeling the war on their own skin. According to research cited by Saudi broadcaster Al Arabiya, Iran has launched more than 4,900 missiles and drones toward Gulf countries, compared to roughly 850 aimed at Israel. Iran has claimed it targeted only military infrastructure, as well as American and Israeli personnel stationed in these countries, but multiple videos circulating online show a different reality. Among the targets were residential buildings, airports, and hotels, resulting in several fatalities and multiple casualties. Despite this, Gulf governments have opted against retaliation. Instead, they have embraced a defensive posture, one that reflects a broader strategic calculation about the risks of escalation. Dr. Fahd Al Shelemy, a retired colonel in the Kuwaiti army, describes this approach as “positive air defense.” Gulf states, he explains, are intercepting missiles and drones while deliberately avoiding direct attacks on Iran. The rationale is rooted in long-term concerns and the desire to avoid a war of attrition, in which both sides sustain prolonged damage without decisive victory. “If you look at it, this is exactly what Iran is currently dragging us into, and this is something we are not interested in,” Al Shelemy told RT...link to read full article

Another setback for Kiev: Ukraine’s spring push stalls amid Russian gains Claims of reclaimed territory have proven hollow as Moscow‘s troops consolidate positions from Sumy to Zaporozhye Published 24 Mar, 2026 rt.com/russia/635944-… By Sergey Poletaev, information analyst and publicist, co-founder and editor of the Vatfor project.  -------- The Russian army considerably has reduced its combat activity, as always at this time of year. Typically, at the end of winter and in early spring, the Russian Armed Forces take the time to prepare for a new military campaign. However, just like last year, the offensive did not come to a complete stop. Let’s take a look at what has happened at the front over the past two months, including the results of the much-publicized counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye regions. Sumy region: Expanding the buffer zone Russia’s North Group of Forces began establishing a buffer zone in Ukraine’s Sumy Region a year ago, following the liberation of Russia’s Kursk Region and the town of Sudzha. Initially, the transfer of hostilities to Ukrainian territory triggered a sort of panic in the AFU – as it turned out, except for the units that fled Sudzha, there were almost no Ukrainian forces in the area. Rumors circulated that the Russian army was about to advance towards Sumy. However, the Russian army’s actions did not go beyond officially stated objectives: to create a buffer zone that would ensure the security of Russia’s border areas. Overall, this objective has been achieved – Sudzha is now a much safer place than Belgorod, for example. At the end of last year, the North Group of Forces opened a new front in Sumy region by capturing the small border village of Grabovskoye. Since then, the foothold has been expanded: Russian troops captured the large village of Pokrovka and a considerable area to the north near the village of Miropolye. This established a certain buffer zone between Ukraine’s Sumy region and Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod regions. In the future, it will also prevent any offensive actions against Rakitnoe (the AFU attempted to break through to Rakitnoe during the 2024 advance on Sudzha)...link to read full article

Pentagon considering sending airborne troops to Iran – NYT A brigade of some 3,000 US paratroopers could join the conflict in the Middle East, the paper has reported Published 24 Mar, 2026 (FULL) rt.com/news/636006-us… Senior US military officials are looking into the possibility of deploying airborne troops to capture Kharg Island, responsible for 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, the New York Times has reported, citing American defense sources. The US struck military targets on the island sitting around 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the Iranian coast in the Persian Gulf in mid-March, but refrained from hitting the energy infrastructure. Reports have been circulating since then, claiming that Washington could launch a ground operation to take control of the key oil hub in an attempt to cripple Tehran’s economy after three weeks from the start of the US-Israeli war with the Islamic Republic. Iran has been warning that it would set oil and gas facilities in the Gulf nations “on fire” if the move against Kharg Island is made. On Monday, it also threatened to retaliate by mining the Strait of Hormuz and all other waterways in the region. The plan under consideration at the Pentagon is to send some 3,000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne’s “Immediate Response Force,” said to be capable of deploying anywhere around the globe within 18 hours, to carry out the attack on the island, the NYT said in an article on Monday. Another option being discussed is using 2,500 troops from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, which is already on its way to the Middle East, for the operation, it added. There is also a scenario where the paratroopers could augment the marines, current and former officials told the paper. Despite being able to arrive swiftly, the airborne troops lack heavy equipment, possessed by the marines, that would be needed to repel possible Iranian efforts to take Kharg Island back, they explained. The NYT’s sources said that the attack on the oil hub is just prudent planning, stressing that no orders to carry it out have so far been given by the Pentagon or the US Central Command. Former director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, who resigned from the post last week in protest against the US-Israeli war on Iran, told the Washington Post on Monday that the American operation on Kharg Island “would be a disaster” and amount to simply “giving Iran a bunch of hostages on an island that they could barrage with drones and missiles.”

At least 66 dead in Hercules C-130 crash (VIDEOS) A Colombian military transport plane with mostly soldiers on board came down shortly after takeoff on Monday Published 24 Mar, 2026 rt.com/news/635999-co… At least 66 people were killed after a Colombian military Hercules C-130 transport plane crashed shortly after takeoff on Monday in the southern province of Putumayo. Many others were injured, while rescue and evacuation operations continued into the night. The aircraft went down near Puerto Leguizamo, a remote Amazonian municipality near the borders with Peru and Ecuador, within a few kilometers of the airport after reporting trouble soon after departure. The Colombian armed forces and local officials gave varying figures for the number of people on board as the emergency response unfolded, with reports putting the total at between 121 and 128 passengers and crew. Colombia’s air force said those killed included six airmen, 58 members of the National Army, and two National Police officers...link to read full article

Trump backs down from strikes on Iran’s power network: What we know so far Tehran has denied any communication with the US, threatening to target regional energy infrastructure if the attacks resume Published 23 Mar, 2026 rt.com/news/635916-us… US President Donald Trump has ordered a five‑day delay in planned strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, claiming “very good and productive” talks with Tehran are under way and will continue through the week. The move follows his threat to “obliterate” Iran’s power network if it does not reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz to international shipping. Iranian officials, however, insist there is “no dialogue between Tehran and Washington,” describing Trump’s statements as an attempt to cool energy markets and buy time for his military plans. Tehran has warned it will target regional energy infrastructure if US attacks resume. Here is what we know so far. What exactly has Trump ordered? Trump said he had instructed the Department of War to “postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five‑day period.” The pause is “subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions” he claims are taking place. Israel has clearly not read the memo again, and announced “another wave of strikes” against “infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime across Tehran.” So, why were US strikes on Iran’s energy grid on the table? Disruption at a chokepoint that carries roughly a fifth of global oil and LNG, combined with strikes on energy infrastructure across the Gulf, has driven up prices and fueled fears of a deeper global economic shock. Against that backdrop, US planners openly weighed strikes on Iranian energy assets as a way to force Tehran to ease its pressure on shipping. Trump issued a 48-hour deadline to Tehran, threatening to “hit and obliterate” Iran’s power stations and energy infrastructure unless it allows shipping to move freely through the Strait of Hormuz, effectively closed by Iranian threats to shipping linked to “unfriendly countries.” (Both Indian and Chinese tankers have passed through the straits.) Tehran responded by publishing a list of sensitive energy-linked targets across the Gulf, should Trump follow through on his threat. Officials listed power plants supplying American bases in the Middle East, vital desalination plants in Gulf countries, and key elements of “economic, industrial and energy infrastructures in which Americans have shares. Did US-Iran “talks” really happen? Trump has presented his decision to halt strikes as the result of direct engagement with Tehran, but his own descriptions of those contacts have varied. In his Truth Social post announcing the postponement, he said the US and Iran had held “very good and productive conversations” over two days about a “complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.” In a subsequent call with CNBC, he described the discussions as “very intense,” said they would continue through the week, and voiced hope that “something very substantive” could be achieved. Trump later claimed it was Iran that had picked up the phone, saying that “they called” before he agreed to hold fire. “Why would they want that?” he added, insisting that Washington was “very willing to make a deal.”...link to read full article

Dialogue Works Highlights_Patrick Henningsen: Global Crisis Incoming: The Hormuz Trap Nobody Saw youtu.be/SGZ_Vu2EG5Q?si… This interview argues that the attack on Iran’s key energy infrastructure was a deliberate escalation meant to trigger wider regional conflict. It claims Washington and Israel are coordinating to weaken Iran, pressure Gulf monarchies, and reshape the Middle East while increasing dependence on U.S. energy exports. The discussion also says Europe is being pushed into the crisis around the Strait of Hormuz, exposing fragile alliances, fake security guarantees, and the risk of a much broader war with global economic fallout.

Hindustan Times_Trump Pins Iran War Push on Pete Hegseth to Save Face After Tehran's Crushing 'No Talks' Shocker? youtu.be/VOScEorN9rA?si… Speaking in Memphis, Donald Trump doubled down on his explosive claim that the US and Iran had held “very good discussions” aimed at a broader deal, insisting Tehran “meant business,” “wanted to settle,” and had agreed to “no nuclear weapon” after his military’s onslaught. He framed his entire Iran strategy as a hard‑won negotiation, saying his life had been about cutting deals and this one would end with peace. Yet Iran’s leaders had publicly dismissed any talks as fiction, branding his secret‑channel story “fake news” and war tactics.

LIVE UPDATES Trump claims he could jointly control the Strait of Hormuz with Iran’s supreme leader as Tehran denies any talks (VIDEOS, PHOTOS) The US president has announced that he believes he and “the next Ayatollah” could control the passage through which a fifth of global oil production flows Published 23 Mar, 2026 The Strait of Hormuz could be “open very soon” if diplomatic talks go well with Iran, US President Donald Trump told reporters this morning. The Iranian Foreign Ministry, however, has flatly denied the US president’s claims that any talks have taken place, either directly nor through an intermediary. Asked if Iran would still be able to control the crucial waterway, one of the world’s busiest oil shipping channels, Trump replied it would be “jointly controlled” by him and “whoever the next Ayatollah” is. Tehran, however, has already announced the Islamic Republic's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. Trump also claimed that there will also be “a very serious form of a regime change” inside Iran. Trump upped the ante over the weekend, threatening strikes on Iranian energy facilities if Tehran did not lift its threat to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, to which Iran responded by publishing a list of power stations and energy facilities across the Gulf that it would target. Iran has kept the vital shipping route closed to most vessels since February 28, when the US and Israel launched the first wave of strikes against the country. International markets have responded predictably to the first sign of de-escalation in the four-week war. Meanwhile Israel is expanding ground operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, where the IDF has destroyed several bridges across the strategic Litani River. At least 1,444 people have been killed and 18,551 injured in US-Israeli attacks on Iran since February 28, the country’s Health Ministry has said. Here are the latest developments: >Trump has announced that he called off strikes targeting Iranian energy facilities, following alleged “productive conversations” with Tehran. >Tehran has denied that any conversations took place with the US. “Trump should lift his head a little from his phone and social networks and from now on keep his eyes only on the sky, stock exchanges, and oil prices,” a military source told Tasnim News Agency. >Trump’s announcement coincided with significant losses on European markets and triggered an ongoing bounce, as well as a 10% drop in the price of crude oil. >Iran has kept the crucial waterway largely closed to vessels linked to the US and Israel since the outbreak of the war. The disruption – affecting a route carrying roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies – has already pushed crude prices higher and heightened concerns over a prolonged global supply shock.
