What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie?

@FetishCritic We've had that happen in the past and I'm sure we’ll have it again. However, for now the saddest part is that many of those negative things are dragging resources away from the positive ones being discovered.

I keep wondering why we only get huge, negative events on a global scale. Why can’t something incredibly good happen instead — something that would shock the world in a positive way for a change. Anyone else?
