My new novel, Drum, is now available as a Kindle and an Amazon paperback. Just Google title and author. You'll find it. Support independent authors.

@rcscribbler IIRC Reagan was noted for looking to the reporters, ostentatiously cupping a hand round his ear, smiling broadly and then mouthing "I can't hear you!". (Cue a wave, climb steps to helicopter ...)

There's a great Doonesbury cartoon about Roland Hedley and the gang drawing lots to see who got to shout the inaudible question to Ronald Reagan as he ducked towards the helicopter. I can't find it right now but trust me there is.

@60sPsychJukebox Nah, I've heard they're just an electronic gimmick band. Pete Murray said so on Juke Box Jury. Gone in 6 months I reckon. A year tops.

YOU GOING TONIGHT? May 12th 1967, Pink Floyd, first show to include loudspeakers placed at the back of the hall to give a 'sound in the round', i.e. quadraphonic.

Today could have been a great day to bring a little dignity to the occasion, to rise to the demands of the job, to acknowledge that you lack perspective and are totally out of your depth and to know when people have simply had enough but sadly Sky News totally blew it.

Me and young Zack do have something in common then because I avoided paying the poll tax for three years.

@SpotlightT87239 The desire to present a 1980s damaged goods comedian as an existential anti-hero. So far it has sold 45 copies so and help you can give by shining your global spotlight would be appreciated.

"Any of you ever been in a working men’s club? Thought not. (Parodic posh voice.) Oh, wait, we did go to a gig at a community centre that time didn’t we, Samantha? You remember. That world music thing. Lovely food." Drum would have stormed SNL. Or would he? Buy my book.

@marcrileydj @Donna__McLean Depeche Mode completely passed me by at first. Thought they were just another crappy synth band. Personal Jesus was the one that made me realise I'd been wrong all along.

@60sPsychJukebox I've seen people in the past make the not unreasonable suggestion that had Sentimental Friend been written by Jacques Brel and not Carter/Stevens everyone would regard it as a classic.

April 23rd 1969, Herman's Hermits released a song called "My Sentimental Friend", becomes a major European hit, reaching number two on the UK pop chart. In the US however, the band was now hopelessly out of style and one of the best songs they ever recorded was ignored completely.
