@wjb_mattingly @Yale It’s been so exciting to watch your career develop and I’m so happy I’ll have an insider view on the next phase!

I am happy to announce that I will be joining @Yale as a Cultural Heritage Data Scientist!! I’m really looking forward to working with the team there. I will be using data science and machine learning to help expand Yale’s Lux system as well as other things. I have enjoyed the past four years at @SIDataScience as a postdoc. It has been the best working environment and I cannot believe how fortunate I have been to work at the Smithsonian with a wonderful team. I was hired during the pandemic and worked remotely the whole time. Despite this, I feel like I was able to forge close working relationships and even friendships with everyone on the team. I want to especially thank Rebecca Dikow (@rdikow) who believed in me four years ago. She has been an incredible supervisor and supporter, especially during the challenging early career years. I also want to thank Alex White (@aewhite100) who has not only been a close colleague and supervisor, but also helped support my ever-expanding interests over the past year. They have both been excellent mentors and guided me from postdoc to the job market. I cannot thank them enough! I also want to thank all the other members of the Data Science team and the Smithsonian generally who have given me the best postdoc experience anyone could ask for. I’m sad to be leaving but looking forward to this next chapter!

Yesterday was my last day @Smithsonian. I’m so grateful for the colleagues I’ve worked with + all of the amazing collaborations we’ve done since I started in February 2019. All told, my outreach resulted in over 2.2 million new words to @Wikipedia about American women! #gendergap

But I am so excited to step into my next role as Director of Computational Methods and Data at Yale University Library @yalelibrary starting in a week! 3/3

So many memories from the kids spending their toddler and preschool years at @SEECstories, to participating in Sec. Bunch’s installation, to visiting the Smithsonian in Panama, and having the opportunity to mentor so many wonderful students and postdocs. A lot to reflect on. 2/3

Today is my last day in my position at the Smithsonian Institution @SIDataScience. I am endlessly grateful for the brilliance and care of the colleagues with whom I have worked. 1/3

I’m beyond thrilled to share some professional news: in the fall of 2024, I’ll be joining the @uw_ischool as an Assistant Professor and starting the Lab for Computing Cultural Heritage! Next academic year, I will be the Kluge Fellow in Digital Studies @librarycongress!

This paper is slated to become open access, but if you need a copy, please email me or any of the authors.

Vicki’s collaborative spirit continues to inspire me. I know she would love to see this work being done, and it is so sad that she is not here to see it. But we will keep pressing forward, imagining a more inclusive landscape in collections-based research.
