My uncle died. I didn't go to the funeral. We weren't close. Three days later I get an email from his lawyer. Subject: "You're in the will." Attachment: 1 PDF. I didn't open it for a week. 1 assumed debt. Or a weird collection of spoons. Finally clicked it. Then I saw:

So Qatar moved my seat without asking me. I'm standing in the airport and I get a notification that I've been reassigned to a different comfort plus seat. I paid for the seat I was in specifically so I could sit next to my boyfriend who also paid for his seat specifically so he could sit next to me. I walk up to the counter and the agent tells me they moved me because another couple wanted to sit together. I'm sorry what. I am also a couple. Who also wants to sit together. Move me back. There was a whole discussion about this but eventually she did it. Get on the plane and the couple in question is right in front of me. The gate agent looks at them and says loudly so sorry we couldn't get you seated together and then turns and gives ME a stink eye when I scan my boarding pass. The person who simply asked to keep the seat I had already purchased.

One day we will have an honest conversation about how money changes dynamics in relationships. In many homes, financial stability plays a big role in how respect is expressed between partners. When money is present, life often feels easier, communication is calmer, and patience is higher. But when money becomes scarce or disappears, stress enters the home. Bills pile up, responsibilities feel heavier, and emotions can shift quickly. At that point, what looks like “disrespect” is sometimes really frustration, fear, or unmet expectations coming out in the wrong way. This is not about blaming one gender or excusing bad behavior from anyone. It is about understanding that financial pressure can affect how people treat each other if emotional maturity and mutual respect are not strong enough. True partnership is not only tested in good times, but especially in difficult seasons. Respect should not depend only on income, and love should not collapse when money changes.
