buddhism is like being in a pitch black cave w/ a single match burning quickly. u can see the light of the exit in the distance, clear as day, and actually it isn't that far at all. but its crucial you use that match to navigate ALL the way out. not halfway! u might not make it!

@webulite p.s. in the dhamma, english is the foreign language. pali and sanskrit are the originals. if ur not willing to learn pali terms ur not a serious practitioner

@webulite I think u may be entertaining a false sense of importance/authority. the buddha instructed those pursuing liberation in this life to leave the household (my website). ur image is of householders. i'm speaking complete dhamma and ur speaking layperson/western

"...Getting fresh water out of salt water. The fresh water is there, but just relaxing or letting the salt water sit in a bowl is not going to get the salt to separate out. You have to distill it. the heat of the distillery stands for the effort of the practice." — Ajahn Lee

@webulite pitch black cave: ignorance, conditions single match burning quickly: human life to meditate, practice dhamma light of the exit: nibbana how is this "nothing like Theravada"? (which I've been specifically practicing for over 18 years btw lol)

Buddhism is nothing like that for the Theravada Buddhist meditator. With Theravada Buddhist meditation we have a clear goal. Our goal is to overcome suffering. We understand that suffering is caused by an untrained mind. So we train our mind. We also have both the teachings how to do this, and the knowledge that millions have done this before us. For the Theravada Buddhist meditator... meditation is like going to the gym. It's not a mystery... We just have to put in the time, practice the techniques properly, and extend effort.

42/Sources, if you want to go further than a thread can take you. Primary: Nāgārjuna's Mūlamadhyamakakārikā, read with the commentaries of Buddhapālita and Candrakīrti. Secondary, and the spine of how I have read it here: Jan Westerhoff, Nāgārjuna's Madhyamaka. The reading of the causal field as something the mind builds is his, and so are the interpretations I flagged along the way as contested. If you caught the negation thread last week, this is the same knife, turned on a new target. 42/42

1/Strike a match and you get a flame. The most ordinary thing in the world. Around the 2nd century Nāgārjuna stared at that tiny event and built an argument that cause and effect cannot really work the way every one of us assumes. It is far harder to wriggle out of than it looks. Let me take you through the whole thing slowly. Thread🧵🪷☸️ 1/42

@AthenaIver my lil theory is ptolemy XV was the historical jesus I think he fled to india when octavius came to kill them then he later returned to levant w dhamma and diluted this knowledge into neo-platonist/judaic framework in order to reach the jews and return to power via religion

@realitymap The cave is dark for everyone but not everyone starts with the same amount of light. What matters is whether the flame is used for escape rather than fascination with shadows. Good kamma gives the match but wisdom chooses the direction
