@eevblog Unless you are talking about something totally non-functional, that would basically double the body part number count for the vehicle - considering the fact that so many countries still drive on the wrong side of the road.

I've been looking at cars on the road. Why are there no visually asymmetrically designed cars? Apart from functional reasons (exhaust port, side opening tailgate, number plate etc) all visual design elements are symmetrical. Yeah, yeah, I know, humans like symmetry, asymmetry is branded ugly. But why so few examples of it and so many companies unwilling to rock the design boat? Are us humans that wired to symmetry that it's impossible for an asymmetrical design to be successful? Only major production example I can think of is the Nissan Cube, and they only did it because it's part of the functionality of the side opening tailgate.

@eevblog Back in the day when I'd regularly sprint - puking from the exertion was a really unhappy predictable outcome. Eventually I found that chugging disgusting lime gatorade would trick my body into thinking it already vomited. Kind of a pyrrhic victory.

I ordered an Apple MacBook Air M2 (2nd hand). I feel dirty, and like I'm now part of some cult. Is there a secret handshake I should know?

@eevblog I've got a Twinhead 486 laptop somewhere... had to buy it in order to use software written to program Motorola radios. The software bitbanged a serial port and was written under the assumption that every CPU would be clocked at 33mhz... forever.

@eevblog Has anyone yet made the comparison to the insanity of the 90s crypto munitions, cypherpunks, clipper chip, and the circumvention of export control through the publishing of hardcopy books containing nothing but source code? Good times, but once should have been enough.

@mattfreed I wish there was something for raw materials. I feel like I'd get faster responses by stalking industrial zoning and asking random people "Where do you get your sheet stock?!" than waiting for salesmen to email me their spreadsheets.

I receive a lot of messages asking where to get parts made fast So I've built an ongoing list of US manufacturers that offer quickturn solutions I decided to only include manufacturers who offer instant quoting - or platforms online that are moving in that direction No emails, no forms. This list is currently small, but my hope is that it helps you find quick-turn partners and reveals where gaps exist: processes still waiting to be brought to quick-turn, and legacy industries yet to unlock instant quoting. You can submit new manufacturers, request new quickturn solutions, and help keep manufacturer information up to date. I hope you can contribute, and I hope this list continues to expand as more quickturn offerings become available Link in replies Pic related

This is still peak Australia. Go ahead, try and beat it.
Dave Jones@eevblog

@PXGray @alistaircoleman Nope, THIS is peak Australia. Yes, that's The Queen meeting Crocodile Dundee in his stubbies and torn off flanno shirt. He did pull his footy socks all the way up, that's important when you meet Her Majesty.

@eevblog One morning before the sprinklers kicked on I was standing at the window watching a roadrunner mill about the backyard. He must have heard the pre-spray gurgle, because he ran to the nearest sprinkler head, turned his back and spread his wings in anticipation. That week was hot.

@eevblog In a year or two, after losing the opportunity to skim a massive amount of transaction fees, they'll be back. That is how long it took Dwolla to send me a "We miss you, where are you?" letter after they terminated my account in 2013. They fumbled the bag after the paypal bans.

@eevblog Definitely not related to mass medical experimentation or microplastics, this is totally normal and not new... only through the modern miracle of anonymous communication do we learn these things. Like how we learned that some people wipe front to back. Not concerning at all.

Well, that was weird. Was driving and a car flashed its lights at me and honked the horn. At the next lights they were waving at me, a young girl and guy. I figured a viewer recognised me and wanted to say hi (it happens). I wind down the window and they go: "Is that an electric car?" "Ah, yeah" I say. They respond very excitedly with "That's super cool man!" and I get two thumbs up and off they go. Umm, I have questions...

@ComicDaveSmith @AuronMacintyre You are effectively making the burglary apologist argument "Is it worth killing over a TV!?1!" that is answered with the question "Is a TV worth dying for?" You should look up the rationale behind force escalation and what happens to cops who let themselves be overtaken in it.

@AuronMacintyre I am addressing the point. You’re not entirely wrong but ICE is also escalating at every turn. It’s performative violence and it’s provoking a huge reaction from the left while yielding very little in terms of results. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

@eevblog At one company I had to prestage a varied inventory, efficiently, in anticipation of demand. Different regions had different demands and responses to events. Stereotypes held. I bet the software I wrote back then would work just as well for predicting used Fluke 8840A demand...

@zevoluntaryist @eevblog I've got two ex-inlaws that seemed solid to everyone for a little over 10 years, until they weren't. Nobody could have predicted the social contagion that got the sister-in-law, or the nervous breakdown and subsequent anger issues of the brother-in-law. Lashing, ropework.
