As for IMGs in highly competitive specialties, they are not “taking spots”, they are exceptionally qualified candidates, MDs, PhDs, postdoctoral researchers, with outstanding CVs. Residency selection committees rank them based on merit. If there’s an issue, the concern should be directed toward the selection process itself, not the candidates. This isn’t unique to medicine. Just like global talent leads major companies such as Google, Microsoft, IBM, and Adobe, or how sports teams recruit the best players worldwide, merit drives selection. Instead of spreading misinformation, it’s worth taking the time to truly understand how the residency match and broader U.S. workforce operate.
