“If David Lynch couldn’t get budget for a film – we’re all fucked” The king of American indie fears for the future of movies, but that doesn't mean Jim Jarmusch is ready to abandon his art and sell out to Hollywood. Far from it, in fact: nme.com/features/film-…

Just found out that in 2021, the UN tried to declare food a human right, two countries voted against it. The United States and Israel.

> you download a therapy app because youre struggling > you tell it your darkest fears, your trauma, your diagnosis > you pay $360 a month to keep it private > 2 million people do the same > betterhelp sells your mental health data to facebook and snapchat > your therapist was supposed to keep secrets > the ftc fined them $7.8 million > but betterhelp is still the most downloaded mental health app on earth > you were never the customer. you were the inventory.

The minimum wage in Pennsylvania is $7.25 an hour. A regular Auntie Anne’s soft pretzel at the mall is $7.29. Imagine telling someone an hour of their time is worth less than a pretzel.

Denmark is investing $83,754,486 in textbooks and turning away from its digital-first approach to education. This follows research showing that screens reduce concentration, impact mental health, and hurt student performance. Yet another dynamic to the EdTech debate.

Let me explain what just happened 👇 5 minutes before the President announced a halt to attacks on Iran… someone placed a $1.5 BILLION bet on stocks going up and dumped $192 million in oil. 5 minutes… These trades were 4 to 6 times larger than anything else in the entire market. Whoever did this wasn’t guessing. You don’t risk $1.5 billion on a hunch. There was zero public indication this announcement was coming. No leaks. No press. Nothing. The only people who knew were in the room when the decision was made. Someone in that room picked up a phone. And within minutes they made more money than most Americans will earn in a thousand lifetimes. In a single trade. On a war that cost you $4+ a gallon gas and $16 billion in tax dollars. American citizens funded this war. Politicians are profiting from it. This is not the first time. Every major announcement from this administration has had massive suspicious trades right before it dropped. Tariff reversals. Policy shifts. War decisions. This is the most blatant insider trading operation in the history of American politics. It’s not even close. And it’s happening over and over in broad daylight. You would go to federal prison for trading on a tip from your cousin. These people are front running war decisions with billion dollar bets and nobody will ever ask a single question. Nobody will be investigated. Nobody will be charged. By tomorrow this will be buried under the next satisfying headline. Just like last time. And the time before that. The game is rigged. And they’re not even trying to hide it anymore…

BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market. In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold. These orders were 4–6x larger than anything else at the time. The trader seemingly made huge gains. Unusual.

We must protect independent routes for music. •Distrokid is looking for a buyer. • Downtown just got acquired by Universal. If you're an artist you need to know who controls your music distribution behind the scenes. This week we mapped 20 independent distributors with clear tags: • Are they fully independent? • Are they VC-backed? (may get acquired) • Are they corporate owned We also track whether they are DIY, application-only or curated. Full report below

People asking grok if zero job growth is normal in a healthy economy and then asking what the government should do about it does not bode well for our critical thinking skills. Godspeed, humanity.

Powell: "The thing a good number of people on the committee are concerned about is the very very low level of job creation. If you adjust what has been the trend job creation over the past 6 months for what we think is the overstatement due to overcounting, effectively there is 0 net job creation in the private sector"

Every teacher I know personally is leaving the profession because students have become unteachable. They don’t read, they don’t talk to each other, they have no curiosity, no passion, no interest in learning. Giving kids unfettered access to screens has ruined a generation.
