@masonporter This continual sense of urgency in academia is harmful for early career folks who are learning how to prioritize the many facets of their work, as well!

I am beyond fed up with all of the "urgent" fake deadlines in academia and in research and teaching (and scholarly publishing) professions more generally. Give it a rest. These things harm my mental health very significantly.

Kenan was one of the first mathematicians who made me feel like there was a home for me in academia. I admired them for their passion for social justice in the classroom and the community. The math world truly won’t be the same without them, and I will miss them very much.

Today the BREATHE field school set sail from Tromsø. Over the next few weeks they will find and drift with a sea ice floe in Fram Strait - studying the physical-biological properties of the ice and the ocean below it @UiTNorgesarktis @SIDRiFT_UiT

I asked my history of math students to include an "About the Authors" section in their research project proposals. Now that I am grading them, I'm realizing that this is a really interesting way to see how they think of and define themselves in the world

I would really love to teach a class that specifically focuses on healing math trauma for undergrads! That would be amazing

They are also writing math autobiographies with three chapters for their past, present, & future relationships with math, so pairing this all together is both sweet but really intriguing from an SEL perspective
