Is there anyone independent looking into the basis of the executive’s $250M shortfall claim? I get the frustration with the Chancellor but it’s more urgent to know if the prob is as the exec presents it.

And this disproportionately impacts hdr students and recent grads, and research only staff.

Any meaningful reckoning over these matters would mean developing a national position on models for decent employment while sustainably managing the nexus betw hdr training and other aca work.

Sad to see people still trying to point-score over the conversion position which members voted up last year. If you want to be honest, why not just ask BT members, all of whom worked intensely for casuals, how they argued? Comradely criticism is welcome, not attempts at division.

Another reason to open up the bigger question about how phd scholars are trained and paid before tenure is possible. Wage + time theft from phd research compounds the issues for many casuals.

There is a significant gap between those & ACAD B1 - in PolSci you need a PhD, articles, grants/awards, teaching & a monograph. Goes to mentored candidates here & overseas superstars. /1

And while those intellectuals in training couldn’t immediately be given tenure, they could be treated as full staff members. Then we struggle together (rather than apart) over workload policies.
