@marcthiessen Japan's wartime atrocities are obviously still a very sensitive topic in Japan, even more so than Nazi atrocities are in Germany. Plus, Prime Minister Takaichi is from the right wing of the LDP, which has long flirted with downplaying or even whitewashing Japan's past atrocities.
