@Telegraph Norway didn't shoot themselves in the foot by privatising their energy. We did. So any oil produced by North sea drilling would be priced at the same rate as that from Norway anyway.

Britain is paying Norway around £20bn a year for oil and gas, and that dependence is only expected to grow. Energy Editor Jonathan Leake explores how declining North Sea production, Labour’s stance on new drilling, and rising imports are fuelling concerns over the UK’s long-term energy security ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

@r0ck3t23 How can someone so smart be so dumb? The base of capitalism is build for a dollar and sell for 2 not labor arbitrage. People choose jobs because it's easier than working for yourself. Fucking communists

Mo Gawdat spent years inside the machine at Google X. Now he is saying out loud what the economists will not. Gawdat: “The very base of capitalism, which is labor arbitrage, to hire you for a dollar and then sell what you make for two, is going to disappear.” That is not a prediction. That is a coroner’s report on a system that has not stopped breathing yet. Capitalism was never about innovation. It was about one equation. Buy human time cheap. Sell the output high. Pocket the spread. Every empire. Every fortune. Every supply chain on Earth was built on that margin. AI just closed it to zero. A humanoid robot now costs $9,000. It does not sleep. It does not negotiate. It does not quit. It runs every hour of every day at a quality ceiling no biological worker will ever touch. When production costs fall to nearly nothing, the entire pricing structure of the global economy falls with it. But here is what every CEO celebrating margin expansion has not thought through for five minutes. Gawdat: “Even if you can have all of the productivity gains in the world, by firing people consistently, nobody’s able to buy what you’re making.” That single sentence should end every strategy meeting on the planet. Capitalism is a closed loop. You pay workers. Workers become consumers. Consumers buy products. Revenue funds the next payroll. Cut the worker and you do not just eliminate a cost. You eliminate the customer. Every company racing to automate headcount out of existence is quietly engineering the death of its own demand. They are building the most efficient production systems in human history to sell to a population that no longer has income. 50% unemployment is not a recession. It is the demand side of the economy going permanently dark. You cannot push infinite supply into zero purchasing power. The math does not care about your earnings call. Gawdat: “Wealth is going to have very little meaning for most of us in a few years’ time.” This is where it turns on the people who think they are winning. If production approaches zero cost, scarcity begins to dissolve. And scarcity is the only reason money holds value in the first place. The billionaire class is stockpiling a currency that is quietly losing its reason to exist. Gawdat: “So the entire capitalist model has to be rethought.” He is right. And nobody in power is doing the rethinking. Every board meeting about efficiency is a conversation about dismantling the very economic engine that made the board meeting possible. The question was never whether AI could produce enough. It was whether capitalism could survive its own success. The machine does not just replace the worker. It erases the consumer. And a system that can produce everything but sell nothing is not an economy. It is a machine that perfected itself into extinction.

The deputy speaker makes an unprecedented intervention before the budget, lambasting the government for their constant briefings outside of the house. Even going as far as to say it amounts to breaking the ministerial code. This is a resignation matter for the chancellor. But don't expect any integrity from this government.

🚨🚨🚨BREAKING: An American cancer patient and Trump supporter was confronted by British police and told to apologise for her online posts or face an investigation. Deborah Anderson, a mother of two, was visited at her home in June by an officer from Thames Valley Police. He told her someone had lodged a complaint about her social media posts. She told him she was an American citizen and a member of the Free Speech Union and he should be investigating burglaries and rapes, not hurty words on social media. Chillingly, he told her he was there to get her to apologise to the person who was offended by her posts. If she refused, she’d be questioned down at the station. What was Deborah’s supposed crime? The policeman didn’t tell her. Was it her passionate support of President Trump and the MAGA movement on her Facebook and X pages? To make it worse, Deborah is in the midst of cancer treatment, including chemotherapy. She ought to be have been convalescing. Instead, she was harassed for her tweets. The FSU took on her case and, as a result, the police have now dropped their investigation. But they still haven’t told Deborah which of her posts got her into trouble, claiming they’ve accidentally deleted the record of the complaint. Thames Valley Police are responsible for guarding President Trump this week. What would he make of the fact that those same officers are visiting the homes of his supporters – including US citizens – and threatening them with arrest.

If you want to know how utterly insane the UK is right now read this: Last year, a man named Shahidul Haque, 55, who is on benefits, claims he is "disabled" because of "obstructive sleep apnoea" and depression, and cannot speak English, was moved into a retirement home in Berkshire. A retirement home. His rent? £110 a week. A few months later, he brought his 28-year-old wife and two children into the retirement home, claiming he did not know he was not allowed to do this because he cannot speak English and read tenancy documents. After the elderly neighbours complained about anti-social behaviour and sought his eviction, Shahidul Haque said he should not be evicted because it would be a breach of his "human rights". His lawyers are using the European Convention on Human Rights to try and prevent his eviction. Our "leaders" are giving foreigners who do not speak English subsidised housing in retirement homes for our elderly because they claim to have "depression". This is insane. This has to stop.

Sky News can reveal Home Secretary Yvette Cooper went for free to a Taylor Swift concert as guest of Swift’s music label Universal Music. Ms Cooper went as a guest of her huband, Ed Balls who was given four tickets. That came after the home secretary had discussions about boosting protection for Ms Swift when she was in London after concerts were cancelled in Vienna because of a foiled attack Mr Balls was offered the tickets on August 4, before the Swift's shows in Vienna were cancelled for a show on August 16 This has not appeared in the public register to date because the tickets were understood to be worth £170 - less than the £300 that would make it a declarable expense. Earlier today the home secretary made the declaration to the cabinet office.

The world's largest single-site solar farm is officially live. The Al Dhafra solar farm contains almost 4 million solar panels. It's expected to power 200,000 homes and eliminate more than 2.4 million tonnes of CO2 per year. We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate

@MikeHudema What happens when those solar panels need to be replaced? Where do they discard them and what effect will they have on the soil once discarded? Solar is not the answer. Nuclear power is a better answer than solar or wind by a mile.

@santismagic @gooner260589 I hate to rain on your parade, but this government has a history of taking action that has massive downsides and very little upsides. They are a government on their way out and they are stealing as much of the silverware as they can. It will be personal gain over common good.

🚨 𝗔𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗜’𝗺 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗙𝗣… The linked thread has led to lots of lovely comments of appreciation, for which I’m very grateful and really pleased to be of help to folks on this topic. It’s also resulted, to a lesser degree, in some attacks on the thread’s veracity and my credibility. The most common accusation is that “I haven’t read the CAS judgement” often paired with a screenshot of a single page in the judgement where the word “no evidence” is highlighted repeatedly. I have mentioned several times in my posts that I will do a thread dissecting the CAS Panel’s majority decisions and why I consider them to be egregious - it will take some time though. However, in the interim, I’d like to make an offer to those folks who assert I’m wrong in my analysis and that Man City are innocent of the charges against them… If anyone can put in the comments below a plausible reason why, if Man City were not subverting FFP, these leaked emails exist then I’ll delete the thread. It doesn’t even need to be a probable reason; just one I can find remotely plausible. If you can provide a probable reason then I’ll delete my account altogether. This may surprise you but I’d actually much rather believe that Man City hasn’t cheated. I’d appreciate the past decade of Premier League football a hell of a lot more if that were the case. But I can’t unread what I’ve read. This offer is open to anyone that has a plausible reason because I’d very much like to hear it.

🚨𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗙𝗣 - 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁🚨 I’ve wondered why so many people only ever talk about the 115 charges against Man City and not the evidence itself, which is incredibly damning and already in the public domain for anyone to read. I came to the conclusion that the mainstream media outlets don’t raise it because they’re afraid of Man City’s financial power and inclination to pursue litigation. And I think the reason its not discussed on social media is because the evidence is not so blatant if you don’t understand corporate financial matters and terminology. So here is a thread, putting some the most damning evidence of Man City’s cheating in the spotlight and breaking it down in a way that anyone can make sense of. 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁… In November 2018, German Publication “Der Spiegel” released their first story about how Man City had been subverting Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. These rules, introduced in Uefa competitions in 2011/12 and the Premier League in 2012/13, prevented clubs from undertaking unlimited spending using debt or owner funds (known as equity). Instead, clubs were required to spend what they “earned” such as from matchday income, broadcast revenue or commercial deals, such as sponsorships / partnerships. The story’s source was a cache of leaked emails that Der Spiegel had obtained between Man City executives and board members, including the Chief Executive Office (CEO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The emails, which are numerous and took place over many years, go into precise detail about how Man City sought to subvert FFP rules by disguising equity payments from the owner as sponsorship revenue, by channelling the funds through the sponsors’ accounts. Man City’s owner is the Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG), which is ultimately owned by Sheikh Mansour. Uefa estimated that by cheating FFP in this way, Man City was able to spend hundreds of millions more that it should have been, distorting the transfer market and destroying the sporting integrity of the Premier League. The emails analysed in this thread are the emails that Man City themselves provided as “originals” during adjudication. For more on the background of the case, check out this thread: x.com/santismagic/st… 🧵…
