@AceTheRed @th3jmanx Whatever, if any part of the gameplay looks like that I have no interest in playing. Gears of War was fun back in the day but I think I’ve had enough lol

As season 1 of Marathon begins its conclusion, I wanted to share my culminating thoughts (if anyone cares at all). I'm obv a Bungie lover, but this was truly my first time playing an extraction shooter. For the ~200 hours I put in, the first ~90% was genuinely enjoyable, with the last ~10% progressively getting worse until I decided to call it for the season. At the start, the progression was enjoyable. The early upgrades for vault space and heat capacity were great, and extracting those first blue & purple items really sparked the addiction. The launch of both Outpost and Cryo were also nothing short of incredible. And arguably the most important point was that I had more friends playing earlier on, so quickly teaming up and running trios was a major bonus.
At a certain point, it felt like the experience quickly turned a 180. Progression seemed off because I was still stuck behind a lengthy list of "green upgrades" despite my vault being full of purple/gold items, and going back to Dire Marsh for yet another quest felt like busy work instead of hopping into Outpost/Cryo. The meta also shifted into bubble and nade spam which quickly became frustrating. The final dagger was all my friends stopped playing, and like many others I don't really find solos/rook runs as enjoyable and don't have the energy to LFG.
Despite loving the crap of out of Marathon's initial launch, I'm still hesitant to say that making an extraction shooter was the right call. At the end of the day, Bungie is known for creating the "best feeling shooters" out there, but they also created a game in a genre where you lose the gear that "makes everything feel great". I'm still hopeful for its future, but I hope that they continue to iterate and evolve to the point where extraction is just one place to experience the game. Time will tell.

@Hurricanehugo13 @PolishTamales No and that’s why I think it’s sad that more people are playing games with less thought put into them
English

@redacted6827 @PolishTamales you think they put anywhere near the effort at the current COD and B6 than they did with Arc Raiders and Marathon?
English

@Hurricanehugo13 @PolishTamales Yeah because most players just play what’s popular even though those series have fallen off so hard. It’s always been like that
English

@redacted6827 @PolishTamales and yet if you combined COD and Battlefield numbers, for games which are objectively rated poorly in their series, they eclipse Marathon in numbers:

@longearedfox I don’t think it’s really that expensive to keep the servers running and it’s pretty normal for players to leave as each season goes on so I think as long as they keep selling copies they’ll probably be fine
English

@redacted6827 I think it’s definitely worth it for Bungie to make games that are out of the box and for a niche audience from the perspective of video games as a form of art. I’m just worried that it won’t be financially worth it from a business sense I suppose. I want Bungie to stick around.
