The Wollemi pine is one of the world’s rarest and oldest living tree species, often called a living fossil. The French banning supermarkets from wasting food is actually a cracking idea. Good on them for that. But let’s be honest, this is France. They ban everything. You can’t sneeze without filling out three forms. They’ve probably got a law against smiling on a Wednesday. So I can’t tell if this was a thoughtful, progressive policy or if some overworked civil servant was just on a banning spree one Tuesday afternoon and accidentally included food waste along with everything else. “While I’m at it, ban that too!” Pure bureaucratic reflex.
