Ether in the 40K era lives in Medrengard and spends exactly six years at a time alternating between living in Daemon Primarch Perturabo’s lair, and the fortress of any Warsmith who is willing to shelter her, acting as a messenger and emissary of sorts. Sometimes, the Daemon Primarch has a wealth of orders to give. Other times, she reports nothing at all. Warsmiths only agree to let her shelter in their fortresses because she’s one of the few channels that Perturabo uses to communicate with his legion, and it means they’ll be the first to hear what he has to say. Also, for political reasons, a Warsmith obviously wants to treat the messenger relatively better comparing to their other mortal vassals, so she can increase their favour in Perturabo’s eyes. And yeah, for obvious reasons, she absolutely HATES her unnaturally elongated life in the Eye of Terror. It’s a different kind of torture for her and the IWs know this and find great amusement in it.
