Red pandas typically give birth to 1–4 cubs—most often just one or two 🐾 These small litters and slow growth (cubs take about 12 months to reach adult size) make survival in the wild especially challenging. In fact, cub mortality rates can be as high as 74% 😢—increasing the risk for this endangered species. That’s why conservation support is so critical. Recently, students from local community schools visited the Himalayan Habre Center, where they explored the space (and a vibrant red panda mural), attended a class on red panda conservation, and hiked through the surrounding forest 🐾 Guided by Outdoor Coordinator Nishan Limbu, they learned about sustainable practices like earthquake-resistant design, eco-friendly materials 🌿, passive solar heating, rainwater harvesting 🌧, and solar energy. ☀ Reflecting on the visit, Nishan shared: “Seeing the joy on the students’ faces as they explore the center is incredibly fulfilling. We’re protecting red panda habitat—and the local communities who depend on it—from wildfires through fire prevention and response training 🔥🐾 🌸 As spring brings warmer weather to the northern hemisphere, the risk of wildfires increases—threatening forests and homes in rural Nepal. Thanks to generous donor support, we hosted a community-based forest fire management training for 24 participants in Nepal’s Bhojpur district 🙏 Participants learned about wildfire causes, prevention, and response, and gained hands-on experience using fire suppression tools, which were then donated to the local Community Forest User Group (CFUG).
