It was super fun last Friday filled with lots of excitement ! Congratulations to our peer for being recognized for showing good character, specifically Integrity. Parents came filled with gifts for the students, I got to dance around in a dog costume, and my son came and spoke about his trip to the Rainforest as a teenager!

It’s wonderful to see writing spread throughout the curriculum now! We had students writing about life cycles while using figures to help them visualize what they are writing, students writing about characters from a book from our reading program, students writing sentences to show they know how to use new trick words, and more!

Students not only practiced writing today, but also used writing as a way to share their knowledge about their observations of the worms, the plant life cycle, the lizard, the chicken eggs, and more!

Today, students practiced writing words by first tapping out the sounds and blending them. They then wrote the words with their fingers on sandpaper, followed by writing in sand, and finally on paper—with beautiful results. Check out in the thread how they practiced reading!

The students were so excited today to touch and observe earthworms. Their discussions, look of amazement, and moments of bravery were so fun to watch! This hands-on exploration sparked so much curiosity and not only did students verbally share their thoughts with their peers and teachers, they recorded their thoughts in writing as well! It was a truly magical moment of learning through play, science, and a little bit of bravery!

For Teamwork Tuesday, students were challenged to collaborate on drawing a garden that demonstrated their understanding of what plants need to grow. They incorporated science vocabulary such as sun, soil, water, roots, flowers, and insects into their illustrations. It’s always great when we can combine science with writing and teamwork!

We created a new version of Boom Boom Clap called Digraph Boom Boom Clap, where students practiced identifying digraph sounds by listening and matching them to written words. It still needs a little refining, but they loved it! A fun, active way to review familiar skills
