The '04 Spurs had a rel DRtg of -8.8 so I figured that was a good Duncan year to compare Wemby to defensively and my lord just for context DRAPM is context-adjusted impact, not defensive ability in a vacuum so possession impact stats like DRAPM can inflate modern unicorn defenders relative to old school anchors.. however Wemby beating Duncan in 2Y–3Y DRAPM is insane (obviously ignore 4-5Y cause Wemby is only in year 3) Duncan anchored one of the greatest defensive systems ever, but Wemby’s impact metrics suggest he’s already affecting more plays across more space. The film matches it too, like you see guys straight up avoiding areas of the floor when he’s there This does NOT immediately mean Wemby > Duncan defensively all-time (yet) but it does mean Wemby is already producing all-time level defensive impact signals Peak Duncan gave you the best possible version of structured, mistake proof defense. Wemby might be giving you a higher ceiling version of defensive impact which is covering more ground, creating more events, and warping offenses more visibly
