“The idea that science can be separated from politics is itself a political position. Developmental science has never been neutral in its global applications.” bps.org.uk/psychologist/w…

Junk science promoting criminal sanctions against parents will never make anything better. We need a serious approach to discussing discipline The substantive problems discussed here and below: #d1e224" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

A smacking ban is being proposed for England, with the promise that it is "evidence-based." But it is advocacy research geared toward a foregone conclusion. What's more, this junk science is being used around the world. I spoke with Anthropologist Gabriel Sheidecker on how it works:

This debate reminds me of the gun control debate. It’s very easily to make highly emotive statements that simplify the issue, and make it v hard to argue against. But this level of invasion into the rights of the parent would be a disaster. It’s already illegal to beat a child.

In our new paper, we argue that the global promotion of child feeding standards assumes certain Western middle-class parenting practices are universally superior, with a promise that future evidence will confirm this. rdcu.be/d7iyi

@LaiborK I assume that any attempt at decolonizing something would be a red flag to the funder. This is suprising given that even the leading global health journals such as @LancetGH or @GlobalHealthBMJ are dedicated to the decolonial agenda.

So sorry @G_Scheidecker. Very ridiculous. So it only funds programs that pretend to decolonize!! This raises doubts on that funding organisation. In this way, colonialism persists.
Gabriel Scheidecker@G_Scheidecker

😰 the forum has been cancelled at the last minute because the funder suspects that we would "seriously push for the decolonization of early childhood research and intervention." Thanks @reluctantprof3, @DrCathD, S. Koller, @heidikelle89897, S. Oppong (†) for your efforts
