Daisies (Sedmikrásky, 1966), which is a milestone of the Czechoslovak New Wave, was state-approved and had limitations in its production, however, following criticism by Communist MP Jaroslav Pružinec during parliamentary questioning in May 1967, the film was pulled from major theaters for 'depicting the wanton' and restricted to smaller venues. During filming, neither of the lead actresses had professional acting experience, Ivana Karbanová worked as a salesclerk, while Jitka Cerhová was a student. Co-writer Ester Krumbachová described the two leads as "a pair of silly young girls but they could just as well have been two generals."
