Cases of attacks on Hindus have reached an alarming level in Bangladesh. On December 27, at around 6am, Islamic radicals set fire to the homes of Hindu families in Dumuria village under Pirojpur district. Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers locked Palash Kanti Saha inside his house before setting it ablaze. Just a day earlier, five houses belonging to two Hindu families were burnt down in West Dumuritala village of Pirojpur Sadar district, Bangladesh. This pattern of targeted violence against Hindus in Bangladesh is chillingly reminiscent of the communal riots in Malda and Murshidabad, where, under Mamata Banerjee’s watch, Hindu homes were selectively targeted, and a father and son, Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das, were brutally lynched to death by Islamist radicals. Mamata Banerjee, the Home Minister of West Bengal, did nothing to protect Hindus then, just as silence and inaction continue to embolden extremists across the border today. The world cannot look away when Hindus are targeted simply for their faith.

In recent years, some films have become superhits and crossed ₹1,000 crore despite little buzz and few people actually watching them. How does this happen? It is usually due to an understanding between those wanting to convert black money into white and the producers. The money launderers are shown on paper as investors or co-producers of the film. Sometimes they themselves can be the producers. They then launder their black money through corporate bookings of the same film: their companies or shell firms buy tickets in bulk, recorded as legitimate sales, even though many seats remain empty. These payments are shown as business promotion or employee engagement expenses, converting unaccounted cash into documented revenue. The producer then declares the inflated collection, pays tax, and the money becomes white. When collections are declared, the black marketeer, shown as an investor or producer, legally receives his “share” of the box-office proceeds, now clean, tax-paid money. It becomes a win–win for everyone: the actors get a “hit,” the producers convert black money into white, and the govt also earns tax revenue as by-product.

Genuine question. On the streets, dogs hardly get food and are rabidly roaming around to bite humans. They’re now being taken to shelters. If dog lovers and activists genuinely love dogs, why don’t they simply volunteer at the shelter? They could care for these strays properly

After the SC, the Rajasthan HC has also ordered the launch of a special campaign to clear stray dogs and other animals from city streets. The Court empowered municipal officials to file FIRs against anyone who hinders their duties. The judiciary seems to have made up its mind, and soon we’re likely to see more state High Courts issuing similar rulings. This is the only way this could have happened, the judiciary. For decades, govt and irresponsible dog feeders have ignored the plight of common people and allowed the problem to grow this large. Mass sterilization and vaccination of street dogs nationwide would cost less than half of a major state’s annual Ladli Behna Yojana budget. These are ethical methods to control the dog population and eliminate rabies transmission, methods even responsible dog lovers support. Even PETA supports. A humongous yet achievable task, if only the state and Centre took this issue seriously. This recent incident is from Kushinagar. Thankfully, the boy survived.
