Yesterday, I voted NO on the FY26 Homeland Security funding bill. After Republicans handed ICE a staggering $70 billion increase earlier this year, there is simply no justification for giving the agency billions more without meaningful reforms. My constituents have made clear that they will not support continued funding for aggressive enforcement tactics that put communities at risk and erode trust. Republicans also rejected basic safeguards to ensure U.S. citizens are not wrongfully detained or deported. Congress must not support funding that goes toward inhumane immigration enforcement.

Kristi Noem's tenure at the Department of Homeland Security and her militant ICE tactics brought chaos and fear to communities across the country. Her removal is a long overdue win for the American people.

I had a wonderful conversation with the Georgia Association of Broadcasters about the future of local broadcasting in Georgia. From keeping AM radio accessible in every vehicle to protecting locally owned stations from new fees, local media play a critical role in public safety, agriculture, and community connection. I’m proud to support policies that keep Georgia voices strong and on the air.

It's always great meeting with the Atlanta Community Food Bank! We discussed how incredible Food banks are doing to keep families and seniors fed across Georgia. I will keep fighting to protect programs like SNAP and TEFAP that help put food on the table for millions of Americans.

I always enjoy sitting down with our county leaders to discuss how we’re collaborating to deliver real results for GA-13. I had a great meeting with the Rockdale Board of Commissioners to discuss expanding veteran transportation, advancing the Rockdale Trail Connector, investing in education, and protecting our local roads. I was also glad to meet with the Clayton County Board of Commissioners to talk about critical transportation and stormwater infrastructure, safeguarding health care funding, and the federal investments we secured to strengthen public safety and pedestrian improvements across the county. Proud to partner with our local leaders to bring federal resources to our communities.

For months, everyday Americans have felt the strain of sweeping tariffs imposed without congressional approval. These tariffs acted as a hidden tax on everyday goods, driving up costs for farmers, manufacturers, and families already struggling with the rising cost of living. The Supreme Court made clear that no president has the authority to unilaterally tax the American people. This ruling is a victory for our working families, small businesses, and the rule of law.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a tireless champion for justice and equality. His courage, vision, and unwavering commitment to civil rights lifted countless lives. His legacy will continue to inspire generations.

Yesterday, I sent a letter to Secretary Noem and Acting Director Lyons 
urging DHS to immediately halt the removal of GA resident & U.S. Army veteran Godfrey Wade. After 8 years of honorable service, Mr. Wade faces deportation without due process. Our system must uphold dignity & the rule of law. He must have his case heard.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Pradeep Tamang, who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Gwinnett County. I’m praying for his family, for the full recovery of Cpl. David Reed, and for every officer who puts their life on the line to keep our communities safe.

Black history is American history. This month and beyond, we celebrate the contributions of Black Americans and acknowledge the strength and resilience that continue to define our country.

Under Kristi Noem's failed leadership, federal immigration enforcement operations have included multiple shootings of civilians, including fatal encounters in Minneapolis and other cities. In some, DHS officials have deeply contradicted first-hand accounts and video evidence, raising serious concerns regarding use of force and oversight. The militarization of ICE is eroding trust in our government and tearing families apart.   This is why I voted NO to increase funding for ICE last week. We must have an independent investigation, accountability for any DHS officials and federal agents responsible, and an immediate end to militarized immigration raids.
