Our base should not have to beg @SenMcConnell and @LeaderJohnThune to pass something as critical as securing and safeguarding our elections. Period.  I can't think of anything more arrogant than ignoring the will of the people, especially when they're the ones who gave us majorities in the House and Senate. This inaction will not only cost us in the midterms but will also cost our republic.

649 days since the Senate sat on the SAVE Act (version 1), which the House passed on July 10, 2024. 375 days since the Senate has not taken a vote on the SAVE Act — the second time the House sent it over, on April 10, 2025. 68 days since the Senate has had the SAVE America Act, the new and improved version, sent over on February 11. The Senate has had THREE chances to secure our elections. Not one vote.

The midterms are 200 days away, and the Senate is still sitting on the SAVE America Act. If this voter ID bill were truly a priority for @LeaderJohnThune and Republican Senators, it would have been on the President's desk months ago. This inexcusable delay is demoralizing our base and will cost us in November.

I care deeply about national security. But I also care about the Constitution. Spying on Americans without a warrant, or with a secret, illegal one, is flat-out unconstitutional. That's why I voted NO on the 5-year FISA extension last night. We can do better. We must.

Americans gave Republicans the trifecta with one clear mandate: mass deportations. We made that promise. Not only have deportations slowed from their earlier pace, but a growing number of House Republicans are now pushing for amnesty. This is a full-scale betrayal of the voters who put us in power.

This week, I met the team at Hollister Inc. in Mt. Juliet, which makes specialty medical products that many Americans rely on every day. As a Member of Congress, I am committed to supporting policies that support industries like theirs – and the countless Tennesseans who go to work there every day.

The Drug Enforcement Administration under @POTUS is working tirelessly to rid our communities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and many other deadly substances that have crossed our borders and have claimed countless young lives. This week, I met with some of the scientists behind these efforts at the DEA Subregional Laboratory in Nashville. I can say firsthand, we are blessed to have so much expertise so close to home.

You don’t become one of the largest retailers in the world without the help of a talented workforce. This week, I had the chance to see some of that talent up close at the Walmart Academy in Hendersonville. I’m thrilled to have them in the 6th district!

Almost every Democrat in Washington is calling for the impeachment of President Trump today, and they're in the minority. Now just imagine if they take the majority. If that's not a wake-up call for Republicans to get back to work, fully fund DHS, and pass the SAVE America Act -- frankly, I don't know what is.

We call today "Good Friday" because on this day, 2,000 years ago, the Son of God made the ultimate sacrifice and took on the sins of the world. Wishing everyone a blessed Good Friday as we remember that ultimate sacrifice and the boundless love and grace that Christ showed for us.

Should Congress end their two-week recess and come back to DC to end the DHS shutdown?

Let me explain what just happened in our Republican-controlled Senate this morning. ANY single Republican senator could have sought recognition from the chair this morning. That senator could have asked unanimous consent to take up the bipartisan DHS funding bill the House passed Friday, which fully funds DHS. The chair would have asked if there was any objection. We now know Chris Coons (D) planned to object, which would have killed the bill that fully funds our brave border patrol agents and ICE officers. That's been the Democrats' plan all along. We would have had them on record, once again, choosing criminal illegal aliens over TSA workers. BUT THAT DID NOT HAPPEN THIS MORNING. Why? Because not ONE Republican senator went to the floor to put this DHS shutdown exactly where it belongs — on the Democrats. And I presume that's because they fled Washington.

Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking the Senate’s dirty DHS deal was just @LeaderJohnThune — rank-and-file Republican senators were in on it too. Any single Republican senator could have stopped the Thune/Schumer DHS deal, but not one did. Not a single one. Republican senators knew leadership’s plan ahead of time, and they still left town knowing exactly what was coming at 3 a.m., while Americans were sleeping.

EVERY Senator who fled to the airport to get out of Washington before they fully funded our brave ICE and Border Patrol agents MUST get back on a plane and DO YOUR JOB to fully fund DHS. @LeaderJohnThune needs to get our Senators back to town ASAP. And while you’re back, pass the SAVE America Act and get it on the President’s desk.

And just like that, while Americans were asleep, Senate Republicans were wide awake tossing the radical Democrats a political lifeline to end the government shutdown without funding ICE and our brave Border Patrol. Now they’re off to take their recess — getting off the hook from having to vote on the SAVE America Act and fully funding ICE. I’m glad TSA agents will finally get their paycheck. They should NEVER be used as political pawns again. But let me be clear: this shutdown was squarely on the Democrats. They put illegal aliens before Americans, and some Senate Republicans just ran cover for them.
