Joseph and I join Michigan in mourning the passing of Don Riegle. As a champion for Flint in the House and Michigan in the Senate, Don stood tall as a principled leader who always fought to give families a fair shot. He led efforts to make it easier for working people to buy a home, bring more investments to the communities that needed it most, and rally against bad trade deals like NAFTA. I was lucky to get to know Don better in recent years, and I won’t forget his advice on being a true public servant.

Last night’s shooting at the correspondents’ dinner should deeply bother each of us, as Americans. Violence is NEVER the answer, and it needs to stop. I’m relieved that President Trump and everybody in attendance are safe, and extremely grateful to our law enforcement professionals for swiftly and professionally handling the dangerous situation.

Not letting families on SNAP buy HOT rotisserie chicken (but they’re allowed to buy a COLD rotisserie) is ridiculous. As a mom who put dinner on the table every night, I can’t tell you how many times a hot rotisserie chicken saved the day. Our bill fixes this bad rule and won't cost taxpayers a single dime.
