The political games in Washington around DHS funding aren’t helping people or making our communities safe. Right now, we need to fund critical work at places like the TSA, Coast Guard, emergency disaster relief, and anti-terrorism and anti-trafficking task forces. There’s no reason that can’t happen while we finish negotiations on important reforms to ICE.
I’m backing a bill to do exactly that. This is common sense, and the Speaker needs to call a vote on our bill ASAP. Today, I signed a discharge petition to force a vote if he wants to keep playing political games.

A safe Michigan means the Saginaw Bay has 24/7 search-and-rescue. We know emergencies don’t only happen during business hours, but cuts to the Coast Guard have reduced our local station’s coverage to 40 hours a week.
I won't stop fighting until we get our Coast Guard station back to full-time coverage and take the unfair burden off local law enforcement.

Today in West Bloomfield, Michigan's Jewish community endured another disgusting, unacceptable act of violence. No American, least of all our kids, should fear for their safety in their place of worship or because of who they are. Each of us needs to take seriously the responsibility to stop the dangerous creep of antisemitism infecting our communities.
Joseph and I are relieved that, as of now, every Congregant is safe, and we are thankful to local law enforcement for their swift, heroic work. Our team will continue to monitor the evolving situation. In the meantime, we are keeping our Jewish friends in Michigan and across the world close in our hearts and in our prayers.

Family farmers have been struggling with rising costs & outdated regulations – some of which are 7 years old!
An updated Farm Bill is long overdue, & I’m thrilled we brought Washington one step closer to providing relief to farmers in Michigan & across the country. midmichigannow.com/news/local/con…

I spent an amazing day in Flint visiting some of the Black-owned businesses that are bringing people together and giving back to our community. Had some great conversations about the kinds of changes we need to make to cut red tape and free up access to capital for the next generation of small business owners.

I am closely following the situation in Iran, and Joseph and I are praying for the safety and well-being of our service members, citizens abroad, and civilians across the region.
Let’s be clear-eyed — this Iranian regime has long been a state sponsor of terror that has done immeasurable damage. They must never get a nuclear weapon. However, last night’s military operations were green-lit without new evidence of a threat, a clear objective, or a defined endgame for American involvement. We cannot enter into another endless war in the Middle East.
Questions of war are the most serious our country faces. We know far too well what happens when we start a conflict without answers to those basic questions. This is a dangerous and rapidly evolving situation. Before President Trump commits American troops, lives, and taxpayer dollars to another war in the Middle East, he needs to make a full case to the American people and earn our buy-in.

America is unaffordable for working families. It’s not enough to just talk about problems — we need real solutions.
That’s why @NewDemCoalition and I rolled out our all-of-the-above Affordability Agenda.

Today was one of my favorite events in a long time. We got to announce $700,000 in new funding for Saginaw’s HELP Community Violence Intervention Program!
This program does it all to prevent and respond to violence, especially gun violence, in Saginaw. Part of what made today so special is that we got to hear from students directly about how HELP makes their classrooms and neighborhoods safer.
