The TVK tsunami, which has swept the political landscape of the state, has impacted the AIADMK harder than the DMK in the Southern region. Out of the 58 Assembly seats in the 10 southern districts, the AIADMK could not taste victory in any one of the constituencies in six districts-- Madurai, Theni, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, and Thoothukudi. Following the results for the Assembly elections, Chief Minister MK Stalin has resigned from office and, in this connection, has communicated his decision to Governor Rajendra Arlekar. As a matter of established constitutional practice, the Governor is expected to request Stalin to continue as Chief Minister in a caretaker capacity until a new government is formed. @xpresstn @NewIndianXpress

#Vijay gets the nod as #TamilNadu blows the whistle! The two-year-old #TVK, led by #Vijay brought down the curtains on the six-decade-old bipolar politics dominated by the Dravidian majors, the #DMK and the #AIADMK, by emerging as the single-largest party in the 2026 Assembly election. No party has ever won 108 seats in its debut Assembly election single-handed. This election, however, resulted in a hung Assembly in the state. The members of the 17th #TamilNadu Assembly being sworn in with #Vijay as chief minister will now depend not on votes already cast, but on the political calculations over the next few days. @muruga_TNIE #ResultsWithTNIE #TamilNaduAssemblyElections2026 #TNAssemblyElections #AssemblyElections Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

DMK president MK Stalin reacts to the results of the Assembly elections: "We respectfully accept the people’s verdict and congratulate the winners." Stating that he has faced both victories and defeats in political life, Stalin emphasised that his commitment to ideals and principles would remain paramount. "Having served as the ruling party, the DMK now pledges to function as a responsible and effective opposition in the interest of the people," Stalin added. @xpresstn @NewIndianXpress #ResultsWithTNIE
