It was great spending time with residents at Capitol Hill Tower yesterday, talking about the issues that matter most to our seniors. As your next DC Council At-Large Member, I’ll keep fighting for affordable housing, quality healthcare, and a District where every generation can thrive. The work continues.

This week I met with the Monumental team to discuss youth sports, gender equity, access to facilities and equipment, and the role major institutions should play in strengthening our communities. After much reflection, I’ve made the decision not to seek another term as ANC 5D06 Commissioner. Serving this community has been an honor ❤️ I’ll continue serving through the end of my term and you can still reach me with any concerns, issues, or ideas that you have.

When I moved to DC at 24, I volunteered in classrooms at Turner and Malcolm X Elementary and asked students to call each other “doctor.” I wanted them to hear that possibility in their own voices before anyone else defined their future. This morning, I joined Mrs. Cora Masters Barry and other guest readers for the Recreation Wish List Committee’s Read Aloud series at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center. For decades, this program has invested in young people by reminding them they are seen, supported, and capable of achieving great things. Thank you to Mrs. Barry and the entire team for all you do. As your next DC Council At-Large Member, I’ll continue fighting to ensure every child has opportunities like these.

Proud to stand with Pro Animal as the Yes on 86 campaign turned in 45,000+ signatures to put a ban on force-fed foie gras on the November ballot. That is more than 17,000 above what was needed. Animals cannot vote. You can. A livable DC is one that refuses to look away from cruelty, and this is what showing up looks like. Congratulations to every organizer and volunteer who made it happen. 🦆💚

I was honored to give my main man Gordon and his family a tour of DC’s Wilson Building. The Wilson Building is our city hall where the mayor, serveral agencies and DC Council operates from. We chatted about DC history and the many opportunities we face in our nation’s capital.

Housing affordability is about keeping families in their homes and communities strong. As your next DC Council At-Large Member, I’ll fight to strengthen the Housing Production Trust Fund, preserve affordable housing, support tenant ownership, and expand emergency rental assistance. Together, we can build a more affordable DC.

This Saturday I am marching in the Palisades 4th of July parade, and I hope you can join me. Independence Day means something particular in DC. We are the only Americans who pay full federal taxes, send our children to serve in every war, and still do not have a single vote in Congress. We celebrate what this country is supposed to stand for, and we keep pushing to make it real here at home. I will be at 4700 Whitehaven Pkwy NW at 10AM. Come march with us if you can. And if this heat has other plans for you, celebrate the 4th however keeps you safe and cool. We will be out there representing for all of DC either way. I was honored to provide welcoming greetings at EMY Africa’s inaugural Washington Soirée. Here, I spoke about local tourist attractions and opportunities. DC must prioritize increasing the local international presence as we look to strengthen our economy.

Enjoyed last night’s Rammy’s spending time with the Ali’s from Ben Chili Bowl and other change agents who make DC what it is. We must attract industries and tourism to feed our hospitality space. In addition, I’ll work to bring communities together to rebuild the DC you deserve.

I’m truly honored to attend this year’s Black Health Connect conference. Here, national African-American healthcare leaders came together to collaborate, network and create opportunities designed to improve outcomes in marginalized communities. I attended last night’s Black Health Ball where the newest 40 under 40 cohort was awarded. As a former awardee, I was truly inspired to see folks raise the bar. As DC’s next At-Large Councilmember and first healthcare worker to serve on DC Council, I’ll work to decrease healthcare disparities. I look to build equity and decrease the life expectancy gap of 25 years between Congress Heights and Foxhall. I’ll look to use evidence based strategies to save lives. Again, big shout out to the folks at Black Health Connect and the recent awardees for raising the bar and inspiring the rest of us to stay focused on driving positive change.

Had a blast at this past weekend’s Pride Parade, where I walked with fellow recent election winners mayor-elect @janeese4 and CM elect @tweetelissa . Here, we celebrated our diversity and honored our heroes in the LGBTQ community.

Grateful to celebrate with @dc4d tonight and reflect on what grassroots organizing can accomplish. This victory belongs to the DC residents, volunteers, and supporters who knocked doors, made calls, and showed up. Congratulations to Keith Ivey on his years of service, and thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. The primary is over, but the work continues. Onward to November.
